Just got back from watching this at the cinema. This has to be one of the funniest films I have seen in some time and in my opinion the writers are now excused from the dreadful Date Movie and Scary Movie 4. Some scenes had me in tears of laughter

I hate big critics. They never focus on entertainment value - for example 'There Will Be Blood' was a massive hit with critics, but its so boring. But then their is films like 'White Chicks' which was panned by critics, yet I'm still unable to find a person who dislikes that movie.

The whole taking sarcasm literally stuff is way outdated, man. I should wait until you find something mildly funny to say. No wonder this film "lks kl" to you.

Same. Only one I don't like is Scary Movie 4, which I really didn't find funny. Date Movie wasn't great either, but at least it had SOME funny parts. This film is so funny though - I was in tears and my freind neally choked on his Minstrells.

The bigger critics are not fond of comedies for good reasons. Most of them are cheap budget films with poor jokes - or jokes that are just funny because they are immature, normally filled with a bunch of total randoms that nobody knows and if they do know them then its for the wrong reasons. The plot is normally very very very thin like, thinner than the sheet of paper it was written on. 'Wanna make a movie about a superhero!?' and then they go from there and pull gags around the idea of superheroes.
There will be blood I have not seen, though I presume it's not really that boring to the more mature mind. People watch movies for other reasons that to laugh, you've got to accept it.

I have the horror of having to review films like this for a newspaper. I knew it was going to be god-awful before I begrudgingly went to see it. Exactly the same as all the other modern day spoofs. I wish people would watch the classics such as the ZAZ films (Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker). My only point of happiness is that I do not pay to watch this garbage.
On the subject of There Will Be Blood, I didn't like the film itself, but Daniel Day-Lewis' performance blew me away. If he was not the protagonist, let alone not a part of the film whatsoever, it would have been a total and utter dud. The film is far too drawn out and the dialogue what at times horrendous. Day-Lewis is the glue that holds the film together.

But as I said, your a critic, and like most critics, have not a single humorous bone in your body. And while your here, I felt your Indiana Jones review was totaly biased, as you've been a big fan for a while and just your sole mission was a attempt to try and prove people wrong. I saw Indy 4, and I must say, it's utter crap.

Hmm... actually I have many "humourous bones" in my body; that was quite a lame statement to make. There is a huge difference in what is funny and what is not, and Superhero Movie is an example of this. You are the minority I'm afraid.
As for my commentary on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I am far from biased - I am impartial - and pride myself in being so. I have indeed been a life-long fan of the first three films, and you saying that the fourth is garbage is your opinion, which is fine - but I know that it's constructed from an attack on the sci-fi aspect of the film, and thus your very negative review of it is extremely laughable. Perhaps it would be an idea to obtain some knowledge of film before attempting to comment.

oh, if she isn't in it much i ain't gonna see it then :P
she's the only character bit in the scary movies that ALWAYS makes me laugh, no matter how many times i watch them
and urgh shut up trying to be a film critic, that's nothing to be proud of being because half of the time no one listens to them anyway - they are biased and most of them don't have the ability to enjoy movies, they just analyse them.. ruining the whole point of them really.
if you wanna force your opinions and express yourself go to a film forum, 'cuz no one else really gives a toss.
It gets bad ratings because it's just so poorly written...

They aren't interested in that, they're more interested in conspiracy theories about critics hating all comedies.

This IS a film forum.
The proof that people listen to me, or more to the point, read and follow me is the amount of mail I receive from readers of my column in the newspaper which I write for. I apologise for yourself as you obviously have zero manners.

it isnt a film forum lmao.
'HABBO' forum, its under movies but i thin writing a massive review on a film the lads already seen is just pointless. i dont think its badly written, its just what your sense of humour is really, you cant say no one in the world will not laugh at the jokes in the movie.

My point is, that critics, like yourself, often pan comical performances due to 'thin scripts' and 'bad acting', which in films like this make the film funny. As I've already said, films such as 'White Chicks' and the 'Scary Movie' francise were panned by the critics, however they have probably the largest fan base of any comedy film. I don't believe I am a minority either - the entire cinema was in tears of laughter during the film. Oh, and just because I don't write reviews for my local newspapers, and trying to make myself the owner of the film forum, does not mean I don't know what makes a good film:rolleyes:
Indy is awful because Ford no longer fits the part. I surely don't get a thrill out of a 65 year old man 'cracking his whip'. There is also, IMO, poor acting and no significant or anything signicficantly new stunt and technilogical wise. And yes, the Sci-Fi element was just utter garbage, and solely destroyed a franchise. It's a god-damm awful movie. And despite you saying your 'impartial', in doesn't hide the fact your article appeard biased, making it a very poor and unconvincing review.

Because the people there thought it looked funny, so they went to go see it. You wouldn't go to see it if you weren't prepared for cheap crap unless you're a critic or something.

Of course I knew it was cheap, it is what makes those sort of films. As far as I'm concerned, if it doesn't cost a billion pounds and hasn't got a Dame or a Sir in it, it's not recognised.
That's just over exaggeration, it's cheap because it's just an endless joke stream about random stuff without any storyline whatsoever. Not really any though put into it.

Thanks for making me laugh by saying that White Chicks and the Scary Movie quadrilogy have two of the largest fanbases in comedy history. Your interpretation of comedy obviously applies to what is current. I believe that you should invest some quality time with the real classics of comedy with fanbases a hundred times the size of what you have suggested, such as any ZAZ film for a start. I also dislike the fact that you make a lot of assumptions, which is so unbelievably shortsighted - I enjoyed White Chicks and the first two Scary Movie films.
Films that you should watch of the comedy genre with well-deserved fanbases tenfold in comparison to the films that you have mentioned include:
- Airplane!
- Airplane! 2: The Sequel
- The Naked Gun trilogy
- Top Secret!
- Hot Shots!
- Hot Shots! Part Deux
- Planes, Trains and Automobiles
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off
- Caddyshack
- Ghostbusters
- History of the World
- Uncle Buck
- Back to the Future
- Breakfast Club

Oh I'm so sorry for having "zero manners" but I'm stating the truth. People don't respect critics when it comes to movies, or at least a lot of people I know don't because to put it simple - they don't have enough personality or creativity to review or even understand a comedy film, it's called overanalysing which is part of their job..
And yeah whoever writes into your little newspaper articles need to get a life because the only people who write into columnists are those with no lives themselves..
Oh, and the scary movies do have one of the largest fanbases of comedy films. If you can say name one spoof movie chances are today's generation would answer with them..
