debit card question

i just got my debit card, however i have no idea where im meant to sign on it.
the letter that came with it just says 'youll need to sign your card straight away'
is it on the little silver strip, or in the space below.
i know it sounds like a stupid question, but ive been waiting for this for months, and i dont want to muck it up :D

oh god, the amount of people that sign the silver/gold magnetic strip on the new lloyds cards is unbelievable. (you notice at work)

fyi, it's the smaller box underneath the silver/gold/black, etc strip which should be white and has 1234 123 printed. (obviously different numbers, isn't the case with amex.)
