Hi.

I'm thinking about getting an audio system to go along with my rig/home theatre.

Looking to spend no more than $1000 USD.

I was looking at this Yamaha setup (http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage.jsp?id=pcmprd88900050000&skuId=999988800050000&type=product).

It looks reasonably good. My dad is a musician so he does a lot of sound tech stuff. He says that 2.1 emits better quality, and he prefers it, and 5.1 is only good enough with very good quality. I haven't had him take a look at these yet. But I don't know if he's being typically afraid of tech like some older people, or he knows his stuff and they really aren't as good.

I'll get him to take a look at this later, but what do you think?

I took a look at the BOSE systems but they're very expensive, and most people have told me that they aren't as good as you'd expect, for the price ($2000.00+).

With an investment this big I'd like to check out all my options.

Also if you know anything about power/rewiring/electrics please send me a pm, right now I'm running out of outlets and most high-end stuff needs to be on it's own circuit.

My computer setup is going to need at least another 10 outlets in the next few weeks.

I just got a sole air conditioner to keep everything that bit cooler, but what do you think optimum temperature would be with all this equipment.

Thanks for reading this bloated thread,

Charlie :)

Sony's 5.1 systems are beasts. I would recommend them, My brother spend around £400 (around $800) on his surround sound (5.1) and its one of the best you can get.

A beast of a 2.1 system is awesome, but these days you can probably get a decent 5.1 system that's as good as what you're after for the price.

Buying piece by piece is the way to go.. PSB or Kenwood would be my suggestion.

With decent speakers a small sub is fine or even none at all.
