View Full Version : Fire Fox download day 2008 - set a world record!
Mr.Sam
08-06-2008, 10:59 PM
Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours - it’s that easy. We're not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome.
By the way, the official date for the launch of Firefox 3 will be posted here soon - so check back! Join our community and this effort by pledging today.

There isn't a date set at the moment. But if you signed up you will get an e-mail like 24 hours before it's set to be released or something
oh right, thanks for that :P

Do we have to install it too, and I'm using the BETA one so I'd rather not downgrade.

I never knew this was the release of the BETA, might as well give it a re-install because it's mucking around anyways.
What is the old record?
good idea by them though.

I still sit with the idea that Mac and Windows updates are classed as downloads and will completely destroy this record, but seems like a good idea :P

Lol yeah.. But i don't really think it's classed as a record until Microsoft or Apple actually publish some download numbers

Is it just the Beta or the full thing we download?
And if it's the full thing and anyone has been Beta testing, is it any good?

No, I think it's being released on "download day" properly, and coming out of BETA status.

about 1.5Million pledges I think? Not bad, they where hoping for a little more but happy with anything, not many other downloads are capable of such a thing so it should be a strong record. iTunes would probably be a serious contender for the record. IT'S A PUBLICITY STUNT?
WHOA, BREAKING NEWS: MOZILLA FIREFOX ARE PROMOTING THEIR PRODUCT THROUGH A PUBLICITY STUNT.
You cant call them criminals for great advertising, and Mozilla doesn't overprice anything, their software is free and opensource so how the hell can you compare them to Microsoft. Of course theyre thinking about themselves, but at the same time they're letting the users decide whether they want to do it or not. If you don't wanna then dont, bloody hell.
yeh trust me it is. It would be in the guiness world records and so anyone who comes across it will see the name MOZILLA FIREFOX. Its not great advertising. Should IE have done the same thing, you would all be kicking up a fuss.
anyway is this it? http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-3.0rc3&os=win&lang=en-GB
IE is free lol. Just because you see microsfot with programs which sell doesnt mean that they are wrong. Its just natural for them to auto install IE on windows computers because its called competition

It is infact Version 3.0 as the RC[1,3] is gone from the title, and the version displays as Version 3.0 now.

We're sorry, but your Google Mail account is currently experiencing errors. You won't be able to use your account while these errors last, but don't worry, your account data and messages are safe. Our engineers are working to resolve this issue. Please try accessing your account again in a few minutes.I suspect that Gmail has just been over-loaded with emails and presumably it would of crashed if that wasn't put in place. Could be a coincidence but I imagine around 400k-800k emails within an hour is a little exhausting on the servers :P
