When some one who is age 11-16 and say they are 'in love' is nor real love and they do not know what real love is - what they feel is lust or a crush.
What would you consider young? If you mean.. say 13 and below, no. They say it for attention and to get that sense of 'Grown Up'

Younger people don't know what love is because they're not prepared to make the smallest of sacrifices. You're expected to sacrifice things to have a loving relationship. A quick knock around in a back alley isn't love.

Yes, I speak from experience. I'm probably a bit older than most of you but I've been with my girlfriend for 7 or 8 months now, and we just know it will last forever. :)!

I have no idea to be quite frank. How does ANYONE know what real love is? We can assume what we feel is love but it cannot be proven to BE love! After all, love is an emotion cause by hormone stimulation...

Yes i think they can. But i believe the word love is very over rated.
But i believe the word love is very over rated.
I totally agree.
I have been in love, yes. Only the once, wasn't a huge success though..I'm still depressed about it not working, but hey, life goes on.
Love has no meaning other than the meaning we give it..
Unless you know what love is, how can you criticise whether or not others can love?
your view on love will be entirely different to anyone else on this planet..
love is universal.

that's not love then, not real love, you probably thought you did though lol, real love is when it's shared between to people that want to be together, but mine moved away and I still miss him, but really, life goes on.

i'm 16, who are you to tell me i've never been in love? i'm in love right now. i know the difference between lust and love because i've experienced them both. infact i keep telling my girlfriend love is unexplainable, because it is. love can't happen overnight, but there's no greater feeling than loving some one and being loved in return. (yeah, corny and off the moulin rouge lols).

I'm 16 and have been going out with a girl for 2 years and 3 months, that isn't a 'crush' or 'lust', I know its not common but everyone here is generalising teenagers as emotionless, careless people. It all depends on what your classification of 'love' is, I'm sure everyones attributes to love are different and generally uncomparable. In my view, if love lasts forever then you can only love once, and if you break up with someone it wasn't love was it.
I believe everyone who believes it isnt true, has either had a bad relationship in the past or have yet to experience it. Very naive oppinions :D

I've been in a couple of relationships where I've thought I loved them but realised later that I didn't, and not just out of childish spite like "we broke up now I hate them, so I'll say I never loved them" as I'm friends with all my ex's, I just realised it wasn't love. I've been in proper love once and that was when I was 15/16 (three years ago now! blimey) so sure, kids can know it. I think maybe the definition of love changes as a person changes though, hence why older people think younger people can't know true love.
Yes I think we can.
I was in love, but the girl i loved changed, and i didnt love the new girl (if u kno what i mean) so i lost that love I had :(

love is a man-made feeling.
theres no place in the brain for "love", there's just emotions that all animals have - happy, sad, angry, etc. love is something that has no specific definition, everyone has their own, so how could you POSSIBLY say that a specific demographic can't feel it? teenagers have every emotion sense that adults do. sure, a lot of teens have crazy hormones and just want to do each other, but they have the same capabilities of love as adults, they just don't follow through as often.
i'm in love with my current girlfriend, and even if we break up i'll still always say that at this very moment i love her.
this just reminds me of that scene in forrest gump:
i might not be a smart man, but i do know what love is.

you can fall in love
you can fall out of love
simple as (y)
There is no age of when you can fall in love.
It just depends when you meet someone that you fall for,
you could be 14 when you meet them or 40.

Some people do but some people just think they do. Most people between 14-18 just fall in and out of "love" every 2 weeks.
When some one who is age 11-16 and say they are 'in love' is nor real love and they do not know what real love is - what they feel is lust or a crush.
LOL k so when you're 16 you know nothing about real love BUT OMG WHEN YOU HIT THE AGE OF 17 WOW YOU KNOW WHAT LOVE IS!!!! what aload of **. You can feel love at ANY age. It's more of understanding your feelings which you don't untill you're older. Geez I bet half of you have never had gf/bfs with the responses you give.
and I completely agree with you mr.parasols.. though I never though about the 'if it doesn't last forever then it was never really love' that's not true.. what if your partner breaks up with you? you could still be the one in love. Plus I think you can love and fall out of love but then it brings up the question WHAT ACTUALLY IS LOVE?

haha i dunno about that really..
my sister met a boy when she was 16 and she still with him now, and shes 21.

all good points. its all about personal understanding. the problem with the majority of responses on this thread are that they assume there is this well known strict definition of love, when indeed there isn't. you can fall in and out of love, especially in high school. but just because you fall out doesn't mean it's not love. high school is where people are finding out who they are, which is why its a great and easy thing to say that they don't know what love is. but it's not true. teenagers know their own feelings, and it's love just as it's love with adults, but their opinions of people change like their opinions of music. i'll give you that it's hard for teenagers to grasp the concept and know what to expect, because youth is a painful time where you are struggling to find your identity - but they also have the same feeling capacity as adults.

I am 15 and looking for love, not just dating around. I don't want attention, I want what me and the girl that I eventually find meet. I don't "love" in just a few weeks. That's dumb. I have had like 1 GF in my life and found out she was a ****, so I don't want to get broken up with like 500 times and say I love each and every one of them. Most of the people I know say they loev each other but it's a load of **. I do believe some are mature enough to love each other.

I second that.
Anyone who thinks love has restrictions is foolish. Love is an emotion that has different connotations for different people.
Its like sayng young people cant be scared because they havent experienced true fear..... rubbish.
Anyway, I say yes.

I've been with my girlfriend for over two years now and I know for a fact that she'll be in my life forever, which makes me stupidly happy - even if I don't show it.
We were on a train back from somewhere once, and I just couldn't stop grinning and I was speachless I just sat there smiling like a doofus at her... and, I've not done that with anyone. That's kinda what I imagine love is... just being completely happy with someone.

I think that if your ''lucky'' then you could fall in love but like it has already been said, most people dont fall in love and is only lust. And I also agree with the overated use of the word love, not even for teens. Older couples marry and if it dont work out because they ''dont love'' each other they get a divorce, its used too freely now days.

I believe you can fall in love at any age really.
My issue ith people who say you can't however is what age do you say I can love someone then?
Is 18 the age on concent for love?
Or it it 20, 25 etc.
Can you turn around and say to me that if I'm with someone while I'm 16 or 17that if I'm sitll with them at a certain age that's when I will fall in love?
I don't get it. :/
It's a pointless arguement anyway as love is a different feeling for everyone.

That's exactly what I think.
I disagree.
I for one know I am in love. I have been with my partner since 14 so it has been a very good few years ;P
I agree that some people get together then like 3 months into the relationship are telling everyone they are in love, it can sometimes be a bit far fetched.
I really irritates me though how people say you can't fall in love at 16 and stuff. I for one did and am still with that person and love them even more many years on.
Just because you personally have not experienced love at that age does not mean it is impossible for anyone else to.

Love is essentially sexual desire coupled with the kind of affection and concern you'd have for a close friend or family member. Therefore, you can love as soon as you feel sexual attraction. Anyone who says otherwise is over-complicating a state of mind brought about by hormonal reactions.
I disagree.

yeah, but i dont think that relationship length is a good measurement of how obvious the love is. i know a few couples who were together throughout most of high school then broke up. the problem with long relationships, especially when you're younger (not saying with all of them) is that when you've been dating for a while, you only keep dating because you've been dating for a while, if that makes any sense. its a subconscious thing, but eventually it is realized, just sometimes too late.
