My schools doing back to the 80s and i've got a fairly main role in it (Billy) - however I've been told often I've got a strong posh accent, and that I dont drop my vowels or something.

Basically I need to know how to get an American Accent?

Any ideas would be welcomed!

Yuck, being forced to diverge. Pronounce the letter T as D and slur your vowels.

You can't just 'find an accent' you can either do it or you can't really - If you've sorta got one practise does go far? Well, I suppose you could practise the accent to get it, if your that sad. Personally, I've got quite a good accent and I'm quite good with a northern ones:P I've been in many 'american' musicals etc. and my accents never let me down (e.g. Bugsy Malone, most probably one of the biggest speaking parts ever, it all worked out:P)

I've had to put on a few american accents haha.
when i starred in Fame, i had the worst one ever, i just can't do typical american.
Then when i was in west side story, i had to do another. It was a lot better by then,

dunno how to actually say how to do it.
haha
just, keep experimenting and hope for the best

Thats just a pathetic stereotypical view from someone that obviously doesnt go or hasnt been to the states. Ive been 3 times and everyone there is very welcoming and up for a laugh. Sure a few are fat but so are English

Look at youtubes of Michelle Ryan in Eastenders and then her in the Bionic Woman, her American accent is really, really convincing, aim for something like that.

Every place in the world has an accent, countries even have certain areas that have a different accent to others e.g north england and south england. So to America the English will have a different accent and to the English the Americans have an accent. Anyway the best way to sound american is to talk to someone american and then just talk like them or if you don't know an american then just watch american videos/films or even songs.

actually even adults can change an accent if they are in a foreign area for an extended period of time. my dad told me about one of his college friends who went to england for 6 months and came back with a slightly different accent. that stuff makes an impression on you.

true dat. like people from britian always get mad when americans sound posh when they do a british accent. there's many different american accents, it even varies from state to state.

i dont get how people don't understand accents. EVERYONE has an accent. you only think british have an accent because you're used to the american accent.

anyway, i come from connecticut. we dont have much of a distinct one. the only thing we really do is not pronounce the T in a lot of words, ie groton. instead of saying "grot-ton", we say "gra-un"

I moved to America 15 months ago and I've been trying to ditch my accent for a while, so I've been kinda paying more attention to their accent.. anyway, I'll shoot

Enthasize your "a", not TOO much but just a little, and if anything has a slight 'ar' sound to it, most of the time you take the 'r' sound out and replace it with a 'h',
ex...
'h-ar-f' (half) into
'ha-ah-f'

also, replace t's with d's if it sounds like it'll work like that
