well heres the story.

a few weeks ago yr10 (my year) got offered the opportunity for anyone whose interested to be a prefect, so I applied. And we would be graded on a trial run of what the current prefects do, on a scale of 1 - 4 by the current year 11 prefects.

so everyone (well nearly everyone) does their trial and today about 40 people get asked to go to an assembly to be told their prefects. but the thing is I got the people who absolutely hate me, so they gave me crap grades; and what takes the biscuit is people who didnt even show up for their trial got given top marks by their year 11 friends. and a few of those who got selected are in detention at least once a week, and frequently sign in late. i'm never ever in detention and am always on time.

i cant exactly ask to be redone as theres no one to redo me.
bah, got better things to do then waste my break and lunch standing at a door anyway.

just needed somewhere to have a rant.

Being a prefect isn't really all it's cracked up to be. There will be days when the new prefects wish they didn't have to stand in corridors, believe me I know ;)

aww sorry to hear that. It's really annoying when the good are ignored and the bad are praised...

I decided not to go for prefect because unlike my friends, I actually saw the disadvantages of it. Obviously, that didn't actually work though because the prefects don't actually do their job but just use the advantage of 'early lunch.' My cousin's buzzing because he got 'Head Boy' type status and I just don't think he realises how hard it's gonna be...

All the popular people were team leaders at my school and all they basically done is hold the doors on the way into assembly.

If you wanted to be hated for the rest of school, then become a prefect :)

At my school, there was loads of places you couldn't go during breaks, so prefects used to guide these areas and chucked you out if you was in them. If you didn't move, they used to get the head of year :'(

They also grassed me up for selling sweets around school :@

I think the staffs should choose and review, not the current prefects because it is unfair from looking at your point.

I had to apply and the staffs sign if they would be good as one and then had an interview. Anyway i was a prefectand i hated it at the end.

Im sorry to tell ya this but i got told today that i am a prefect. Not at your school obviously. Personally, its not the end of the world :) Cheer up, im doing Year 7 tutor time next year, so i got little bratz running around like there high on a substance i wont say... lol :)

i was a prefect once when i was 10. it wasn't my choice, my form teacher nominated me.

i really hated the job. i told the teacher-in-charge of the prefectorial board that i wanted to quit, but she didn't let me until the end of that school year, lmao.

trust me, being a prefect's not all that it's cut out to be. be glad you weren't chosen. ;)

You must try and remember you didn't fail, the system in place at your school is a terrible one, it's unfair, especially if those that didn't even bother to take the trial got given top marks.

In my school prefects arent looked down upon as teachers pets and arent grasses. We were just normal students who help out when needed and teachers gave us money for our work. So ye not so bad for my school. Poor luck that you didnt through though, most schools arent that good to be a prefect in but if you can stomach 8 months of it then its good because it is admirable on CV's.

Year 11 graded you? That's a very bad idea, it's the end of school life for them and they expect Year 11's to be serious and fair? The teachers should do it, and should of done it. Complain if you want, or ask again next year, if it means alot to you :)

My school is one of those that will be getting shut down if they can't boost their grades, yet they had prefects.
I was one for the simple fact that I wanted a different coloured t-shirt. :)

Hey there,

In my old school there was normal prefects, 4 senior prefects and 2 heads.

I was a senior prefect, I was in the student/teacher council etc.
but honestly, after a few weeks the novelty wears off just like anything.

You get bored of having no break or lunch time after a while. So even if you don't get picked for this position - it's not the end of the world :)
Keep your head up, study for gcses and you'll be fine!

Haha in my College, we're Student Ambassadors and we work out of College to help the people who are coming into College. We get paid about 20 quid per day for it, and we only do it once like... every month? It's really easy too lol. =D

Yep its quite annoying that this is just a whole popularity contest. Well prefects at my school get chosen in this way:

Students nominate other students
Nominated students get reviewed by teachers/staff, those bad ones taken out
Trail for like a month
Those who make it become prefects.

Thing is prefects at our school... well they are not hated, but if say they do something wrong (like not finishing work), everyone will be like "ohh prefect, never done your homework", gets irritating :P
