Hey,
My friend gave me the domain www.techremix.info (http://www.techremix.info).
And I just got a new idea for it. The idea was to do a music uploading site, where other people could upload and download songs etc.
But I've got a question:
- Is this illegal?

I don't want to do things that are illegal, so I thought I could ask you guys =)

Best regards,
Meti

It's only illegal if people are uploading and downloading music that is copyrighted.
IE
Uploading a Coldplay album = Illegal
Uplading an album that you and your friends recorded in your garage = legal.

It's not illegal for you because you're just providing the site and could be innocent reasons for example, uploading non-copyrighted music

like limewire isnt illegal unless you download copyrighted content from it.

Yes it is illegal, as he would be hosting the files.

That's completely different. Limeware operates off p2p (peer-to-peer) networks, so they don't actually host the files.

Limewire is illegal if your feeding it files or downloading content from it.

In England, yes. I don't know about the Swedish law though.

Its illegal? That cant be right.

I know of sites (e.g. rapidshare) which people upload files (including music files) in zipped folders and people can download those files if they wish.

If its a music file upload site which allows users to upload their files then I dont see the problem?

But the files are suspended once found, rapidshare ask that you only upload legit files.

Yea but rapidshare cannot control the uploading of legit/unlegit files. By asking for this to happen they are legally in the right.

That's why LimeWire get away with it.

Could he write terms and conditions which makes the person accept all responsibility like myspace?

Yes, Copyright.
You dont own the content.
He knows that, but he's asking if he has the right to distribute the files for free, which he cannot as it's a criminal offense.

Limewire don't "HOST" any of the content it shows in the searches - the users host it, and share it whilst on limewire (unless they've disabled it)

They get away with it as they are providing an application and state in the download process if you download this what proposes you using it for and if its illegal intentions = you cant download it, but we all know we're going to be downloading music/porn/ and in some cases child porn (you sick *******s)

Get a server in Iran, no copyright laws there - only on their own material.
