View Full Version : Slight changes to the reputation system

Reading through many threads here, alot of people arent / werent happy with the reputation system and the negative reputation they receive.

I have seen the system I am about to recommend on another forum and I think its great.

If you give someone a negative reputation, you loose x reputation.
So when they choose the "I disapprove" option, they see this:

There is a "cost" of -1 reputation to you if you give negative rep.

It will stop pointless negative reputation as people dont want to lose their own reputation points. And this will mean people will only give out negative reputation when its really neeeded :)

But then that would mean nobody gives negative reputation, making more people give pointless positive reputation. The system used now is (kind of) fair.

Personally I don't like negative reputation at all and don't use it. There is nothing constructive about it as far as I can see and it is more than often used as a bullying or tool of vindiction. However we cannot all agree with everything. I do not see getting rid of it would diminish the effect of positive reputation - those who are negative on the forum just wouldn't be awarded any I wouldn't think.

To be fair the reputation system got ruined some time ago, Not as many people use it any more and its pretty much useless now.

I don't think that would be possible, and even so if there is a legitimate reason to -rep then this would deter people from issuing -rep when its needed. I think checking the rep of people who send out pointless rep is a better deterrent.

Please try to post constructive criticism (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/constructive%20criticism) ;) Posts like that accomplish nothing.

Must be a modification (and I know habbox forum hates them) as I have seen a few forums use it.

Well it isn't really fair either when people have 16 rep power, have their rep disabled, and are still allowed to -REP people :\ Taking away their earned points..

Even the most constructive posts barely accomplish anything with the management of the forum.

I love you too

As for the rep system suggestion, I don't think this would accomplish much tbh. I would say its fine how it is, but I'd be lying :P But I don't think that's the way forward.

Marcus I do think you are being a bit unfair here - the whole structure of the forum has changed because of member's posts and opinions over the last few months. All infractions/warnings were scrapped and everyone was given a clean sheet. There is now a department dedicated to community support all because of Members and a great deal of credit has to go to the Council members for this too who petitioned to get the rep changes less harsh and that was granted.

So say you are sorry now!:P xx

Must be a modification (and I know habbox forum hates them) as I have seen a few forums use it.

We do put in modifications from time to time, when its very forum-changing and after its undergone intense scrutiny. This wouldn't make a huge change to the forum (like, say an arcade) and therefore I don't think we'd install a hack for something like this. (Also the Arcade has been made very, very secure.)

I disagree entirely. Recent examples: Renaming forums to include anime, making the rep system less harsh, more human judgement in moderation, better contact between the community and management (Community Support Team), reorganizing announcements so that the important ones aren't mixed in with events announcements.

Please check into things instead of spewing thoughtless talking points that members have become all too fond of like "management is corrupt" or "they don't listen."

I apologize for my harsh language but it really is starting to irritate me.

It is perfectly fair. People with 16 rep only got there rep, as they have been good 'citizens' on the forum.

Although when people with 16 rep say they will +rep you after you sell a runesczape pin, then don't - Thats when I think its unfair :P *Cough*jesus*cough* :P Nothing aggainst you though jesus :D

I do believe if your reputation is locked you shouldn't be allowed to give others reputation. However as for the current reputation system not working, there's always going to be people who give pointless reputation, integrating a -1 cost wouldn't do much, as many users wouldn't care.
