It wins because its a recent game. Most people in say 10 years time wont think oh CoD 4 was a really great game like they do about ocarina of time etc. GTA4 is in the top 5 when vice city etc arent and most people prefered those so that just kinda shows it.

Its far from great IMO.
Successful, from luck. Not great.

The storyline is shabby at best, especially in comparison with the likes of Final Fantasy VII, which is truely a great game.

The online is admittedly very very good. Although this was as much through luck as anything else, and still has flaws (eg everyone booted when host leaves, games losing connection, limited maps etc.). And, if you ask me, it'd be far less successful if it had a levelling system like Halo, wherein you need to be very very skilled at the game to achieve the top rank, opposed to merely playing a long time.

GTA IV is another one I realy don't agree with. 30 hours storyline, and most of thats repetitive. Only a couple of good missions, the extra things to reach 100% seem far less attractive than SA. Some SA features removed and replaced with pointless ones (eg Subway, cable cars etc. etc.).

COD 4 and halo 3 are not the best games COD4 is very good but not the best and halo3 was just sucking the cash out of the franchise what about C&C, red alert, starcraft, goldeneye should have been higher as it is still played in competitions and so is MGS a bit far down also what about counterstrike, empire earth, KH, FFVIII. COD4 and halo3 are just no where near as good as some of those games =/

I don't agree with much of that list. Only 100,000 people voted and it wasn't from worldwide or a various audience. You don't see Brain Training there but it's one of the most successful and popular games of this year. I was looking at the Wii chart at work today and 9th was Super Smash Bros. Go figure.

Its games that are fresh in peoples minds as well though.
And a lot of the ones asked were probably media gamers, only playing the biggest/most advertised/popular games, opposed to seeking out many others.
