although quite a bit of stuff doesnt seem real. How did he make a bomb? well a smoke bomb.

In one episode they said that Donnie Darko is Newt's favourite film, and in Donnie Darko, Donnie had a imaginary friend type thing that tells him to do bad things.
Same as Newt and Eli.
Possible hint from the writers?
