Ok so im from Canada and have moved to the UK for with my Parents for like the next 5 years or so depending on my dads job.
I have quite a strong Canadian accent and i always talk to people like i do when im in Canada. This means that to people who are older than me i call them Sir or Ma'am when asked a question. Its hard to explain when i use this but Any way i was at the park playing football with my mates and my dad rang me and asked me if i would be back for dinner and i just said "yes sir" and that was it then when i came off the phone these girls who im not even friends with were like "weird American go get a country and stay there!" and i was like really taken a back by this because i had not even spoken to these girls but ne way like some of the guys there were laughing with them at me as well and i know sticks and stone and stuff but this did like upset me not like crying but ...do people really hate it or find it weird if i say "yes sir" just out of respect???
Ps. please dont post the whole aboot thing i get it all the time.
Because you're young, and these days us kiddos dont really have that much respect for older people like with sir and madam and stuff except maybe in school. So when they hear it, they just find it a bit weird and as people do a lot, said something. Which is kinda dumb, but oh well.
I think you shouldnt worry about your accent, its fine.
btw, i love canadian accents =D

That's a bit stupid that someone would make fun of how the way you speak. I'd make fun of the way THEY speak, 'cos they can't pronounce their own language properly, even thought it's as bad, but still, they did it to you.

Don't listen to the girls as it sounds like the typical bullying girls. I think if anything they are trying to get your attention because they like your accent and to do that they have to say something rude and offensive to you.
They probably found you saying it strange but thats still no excuse,
They're pathetic for being mean because of your accent, Just try and ignore it.

Thanks guys I tried to rep as many people as I could but I cant give any more today, any way I told my dad about it and he was like people sometimes feel that we are just as bad as the illegal immigrants in this country and other countries because they just see us as foreigners not people and think that we are just living off their countries money and not giving any thing back. He also said I should never be ashamed of my accent or change it for anybody. So I guess I shouldn’t dwell on it just because some immature people don’t like it.

Welcome to England.
lol.
We're over run by idiots like that. You'll meet a whole lot more but what I've found (around my area anyway) is that people love Americans/Canadians. Lol.
You've just come across some chavs that think they're all that.

ok so im like ***, im down at the Park playing football with my friend and like the same girls walk past with two boys im not sure if it was the same guys as last time but any way they stopped an started shouting something about Yankee doodle and we were just like "ok thank you go away" and the two lads walked up to me and were like "watch the way your talking cuz ill **** you up" and my friend was like "i doubt that" and then they like started squaring up to him, these kids must have been like 15 and they like grabbed my football and were chucking it about i said "give it to me now" and then one of them just took a swing at me outa the blue thankfully i quite a well built hockey player so i need quick reactions and i was able to block him. But then the other hit me in the back of the head thankfully not hard enough to knock me down but i turned round and slugged him one on the jaw and he fell to the ground. My friend grabbed the ball and we walked away quickly because i was not wanting to fight or anything but they were shouting something as we were walking away and now i feel i cant even go to the park any more or they will like get loads of people on me. What the hell do i do this all because of my stupid Canadian accent!!!! I have done nothing wrong so why are these people still so like obnoxious ???
I still don't get this "aboot" thing..
I'm Canadian and I can assure you that I do not say "aboot" lmao.
But anyways, about those guys.. you pretty much owned then by showing them that you're not a little *****. If something happens again just be like. I don't want to fight over something stupid but if you guys wanna continue then I'll knock you and you're little ***** friend out.
loll.
GJ though and don't worry about it. If you really feel the need then just get your dad involved and yeah.

Viruz, you may just be on a rough estate where this kind of thing is the norm. It wouldn't surpise me. There's nothing wrong with your accent, and saying sir is good and well-mannered of you.

Defo wont get my dad involved he would get arrested, and as for the aboot thing i do not say it anything like that just sounds normal to me but i think like south park has made people think we say aboot.
Do you think i should go play football tomorrow?

Where abouts in the UK are you? I'm sure the norm is that no-one really cares where you're from, and it kinda proves those girls are dumb if they think you're from the US with a Canadian accent

I didn't mean get him to deal with it or anything but if you feel really threatened then maybe talk to him and then he could get authorities involved or something if it gets really serious.
I would probably go out and play because if you don't then you seem like you're scared or something and that's exactly what they want. Although it wouldn't be a bad idea to stay inside and let it breeze over.

It's not your accent, it's just kids picking a fight for no reason - it happens all the time.
Though, we have a Canadian kid in our 6th form who's just moved to England. I must confess in the first few weeks we had fun with his accent but he loves the attention and plays up to it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with your accent. I don't know where in the country you are living, but accents across the whole of the UK are very different. I imagine these girls haven't travelled very far, and probably think their accents rule, which is quite narrow minded to say the least. I live in the south, and accents in the north I don't always understand, but that doesn't make my accent any better or worse than anyone elses, and I certainly wouldn't make fun of anyone because of their speech. I must admit if I heard someone call their dad 'Sir' I would be surprised, it's pretty rare here. Don't change stay polite :)
Don't stop playing football, you have the same right to use the local amenities as anyone else, stay strong and stick up for what you believe is right.
There just jealous of your accent :)
Thats how it is in UK, if some one wants something and some one else has it, they don't like it.
Just ignore them :)

I dont think taking swing at someone and then hitting them in the back of the head is banter as for saying anything back dont you think this will add fuel to the fire?

I think Worcester is near Birmingham, so they can't talk with their accent to be fair :P Just ignore them, these people always look to belittle others, and end up belittling themselves.
