I have decided to run our own Folding@Home Habbox team

For those of you who don't know what folding is and are interested in helping out, you can check out this site here (http://folding.stanford.edu/) to find out all about it.

For those who do know what folding is, and are interested in folding for us, then please do so - we could use the help!

If you are going to fold for us, please try to use your forum usernames as your folding alias. This will make it easier for everybody to know who's who.

Finally, if you would like to check out the team stats and find out how many points each person has managed to produce. Check it out here (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=133305). You may find that the stats are being updated - This will happen quite often and will last for approximately 45 minutes each time.

Yes, the stats are updated once every like 20 minutes which happen for 45 minutes each time.

Awesome. It does take quite a bit of time to get points depending on your CPU speed, so you may want to leave your computers on all night folding if you feel comfortable with that.

Is it possible to set it tasks with very limited internet activity as i could leave my laptop going on it 24/7, but it's not permantly connected to the internet and i'd have to update it every couple of days. ???

Well i wouldn't recommend using it on your laptop for more than a few hours at a time.. If it is a single core processor it will max it out 100% = lots of heat (especially for a laptop). But i do think you need to be connected to the internet when ever Work Unit s completed

Yeah don't worry, i know ;). I used to leave it for days on end at 100% encoding films. I have my ways of (trying) to keep it coolish.

I don't understand what it odes - the Standford website isn't clear!

Okay right. The software you download uses your CPU power to calculate things such as the ways proteins within the human body are formed. This is the stages the software goes through -

1. Downloads the work unit (information on what the CPU has to calculate)

2. The software uses your CPU to actually do the calculating, this is the folding part.

3. When your work unit is complete, (this can take from hours to days or even weeks) the information worked out by your CPU is sent to the main server where that information can be used to help understand new ways to cure currently incurable diseases.

This process is repeated over and over. The more Work units you complete, the more points you receive (as seen on the Habbox team page).

You need to go to where Folding@home is installed and delete everything in the work folder. You will lose your current progress within the WU though

No, different WUs have different numbers of frames that take different amounts of time to complete and give different scores. A lot of the basic ones seem to give 15 points from what i've seen.

Higher ones will take longer. SO in the long run, you will still be getting the same amount of points no matter how long or short the work units are.

Yeah, the processing power that you are not using is used to do calculations and things to contribute towards medical research and it communicates what it has found over the internet to a server.

Well, have you actually done any work? You need to complete at least one Work Unit before your name will appear on the list.

Just whack it on 100% as it is set as low priority, so whenever you do anything else F@H will let your CPU do that before it goes back to folding, so you shouldn't notice any performance decrease really.

Edit: It also seems that there is someone else besides me folding under the name of "Nick" as I shouldn't have that many points ;).

Yeah, it will continue from where it left off. Your score won't be updated until you've done all 1000 frames.

Not really. They could just have better pc's/running multiple systems/leaving the pc on while they go to a rave.

No, but you need to be connected to the internet to download a work unit, and then you will need it again to upload the results.

that doesn't make any sense lmao.

they go down every 20 minutes, for a period of 45 minutes, and that's because they're updating everyones stats - think of the total amount of people folding, and thats why it takes so long to update.

It won't count if the unit is uploaded while the website is updating. You will have to wait until the next update for your score to be changed.
