Can you unblock an iphone that has been reported stolen.

My cousin has one and its been reported as stolen and now he cant dial out from it or anything.

Anyway to get it back functioning or is that the end of it?

If it's stolen, then no-one will say :P If it isn't, tell whoever blocks them that it isn't.

I once found a £10 phone on the fields - no one round so I thought I would pick it up, instead of leaving it there to get damaged by weather.

An iPhone on the other hand is a different matter. It is worth a lot of money, and for it to be stolen, you must have found it in a pretty busy place...

Also, I'd google it and check out some of the links. I just did and there seems to be a couple that might come in handy?

To everyone who said to take it back well thats up to him if he wants to, he got given it from his uncle who must have stole it somewhere.

It won't work. The IMEI number will be blocked in what ever country it was reported in.

yeah thats what I was thinking, dunno what hes done with it so far. All he can do is use wifi and everything else apart from the network stuff like sms

Even more ilegality, and can easily be traced as soon as it is connected to the network within a few hundred yards.

Apparently, in the UK it can be upto 5 years in prison or a £10k fine.

yeah thats what I thought it did, thing hes got the ZiPhone thing too. It had something on there like change authentication key, then you had to de-activeate it and then re-active it for it to work.

Once the IMEI is changed and is used on a different network Apple can't trace you due to them not signing a deal with other network companies, so yes it is more morally wrong but still.... as if you watch WWDC Steve Jobs knows all about the jailbreaking etc and he was laughing about it, the fact of that matter is I can't see apple/o2 tracing down one phone, however I could be wrong, but still I would return it as that is morally wrong if I had a spare iPhone i would probably mess around with it by changing the IMEI etc.

No, the network can trace it, not Apple.

In other words your cousin stole it from someone and is now wondering why it won't work!?

You won't be able to unblacklist a stolen handset!

No, my cousin got it from his uncle, he did not steal it he had it given to him. Hi uncle must have stole it or whoever gave it to him.

If the IMEI number can be changed then it will no longer be blacklisted.

You can't change the IMEI of a phone.

Not legally anyway.

Why would it have to be a busy place? Could of fallen out of someones pocket on a field just as easy as a £10 phone would of.

Why are people crying and telling him to hand it in? If someone said heres an iphone I wouldn't be asking questions....
