Hello everyone.
Well, sadly, my hamster seems to have 'wet tail'. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's where the tail of the hamster gets wet and sticky, and it has diarrhea. I have only noticed this in the past few hours, and this morning it seemed to be ok. At this hour and because its sunday, there's no vets or pet shops open, and to get it cured, the vet bill would be massive. The home treatments don't work as well.
I hate to see it in pain and suffering, but I don't know what to do. According to the internet, it could die within 24 hours, and I imagine it would be painful. I hate to see it in pain, but I don't like the idea of euthanasia on pets either. What should I do? I can't afford the vet bill but I don't want to see it in pain either :(
Can anybody help? All helpful answers receive +rep.
Thank you for your help,
ToxicPaddy

I don't think I should touch it, its in a very delicate condition. It looks like its losing its fur/fur becoming discoloured.

How would the vets bill be massive? It's a hamster. If it dies it dies, just get a new one...

Maybe he actually cares about his hamster. If everyones attitude to pets was that they didn't care about them and they'd just get another one why would they bother to get a pet in the first place.

maybe think about getting it put down

The vet bill would be app. £35 which is too much and I would have to pay it myself. Sadly, I don't have that money now. Its condition is worsening. I have looked it up on the internet, and you can do it at home with carbon dioxide made using vinegar and washing soda and that will make the hamster fall asleep and die, its all peaceful. The method is used at the vets aswell. I feel this is the best method. If I had the money, believe me, I would pay for the vet to do it. I see it now, and it is slumped up against the side of the cage, and its eyes are squinty, and its breathing is very fast.

It could just have a little few day illness, it will get better don't worry. It doesn't need to be put down just because it's sick. :(
So your mum and dad will just let your pet die?

My parents say its my decision, they can see how ill it is. Also, its not just a sickness its wet tail, in a serious form that now cannot be treated seeing how bad it is.

There are a few links on Google that says "Wet Tail" can be caused to a change in his diet, you been feeding him anything he's not used to?

Bring him to the vet, just ask your parents for £35, I'm sure they'll allow you to have that. The vet will give him some antibiotics and hopefully he'll be back to normal. :)

This morning he is still alive (although still has diarrhea an sometimes slumped up at the corner of the cage) and I will be ringing the vets within the next half hour. Thanks for all your help, +rep given to helpful answers :)
