I was reading this pamphlet that came inside the NewScientist, which I subscribe to, and it says:

• Three times more men than women commit suicide
• More young men die by taking their own lives than in car accidents

• One in four people will have a serious mental illness during their lifetime (male&female)
• Every Day in the UK 15 people end their lives (Male & Female)

To be honest I was quite shocked at these statistics... I always thought car collisions were more common, but apparently not.
What do you people think about these numbers? Are they surprising to you?

Very shocked by that, you never hear about suicides, except children. In fact theres been alot of them, so maybe its not so surprising

one can extrapolate 3360 road deaths in the UK per year (see tables 12.20 and tables 1.1) in 2006. That being 9.2 deaths per day.

Eh... I haven't met anyone with a serious mental illness. I don't think that's true.
