View Full Version : Rule Reminders?

Hey I was just wondering what the status of Moderator's reminding people of the rules are in signatures. Moderators aren't allowed to remind people to follow the rules by posting or making threads, however some seem to be doing it in their signature which I think is a little OTT now. Surely this is just exploiting the fact they can tell members to follow the rules in their signatures but not posts?

Far too frequently now [S]Mods are have rule reminders in their signature, it's not their job to remind people the rules if I'm correct unless they're breaking them.

I think this is just rubbing in the fact they've got power and they're a little too threatening perhaps, it's not like you see members with rule reminders, like everyone is always saying 'Habbox Moderators are members too' - In that case why do they need to have a signature telling people to follow the rules 'or else'. I'm okay with 'Report infractions' URLs as that's useful to most people but people shouldn't need reminding to follow the rules if they're not breaking them, after all we signed up and agreed to them and most people do follow them.

I'd be more comfortable if [Super] Moderator's weren't reminding people of the rules in their signature, and they're not allowed to in posts so surely signature could be included too?

Thanks :P

I don't think its a problem either, its like saying to us oh you can't have that signature cause i find it very insulting when there is nothing of a such in the signature that directs it in being insulting.

The moderators doing it are trying to help. I don't see a problem with it, personally.

It's kinda redundant because obviously you're meant to follow the rules, but there's no harm in saying it :/ the idea of not making posts/threads about it is so that there aren't a multitude of posts all saying the same thing (essentially spam) but a signature if kept small like lAscend's is fine

I feel you are breathing a bit too much meaning into helpful reminders. You could also claim its patronising that moderators have "report infractions" links in their signitures or edit posts/PM with reminders when people break rules. Its doing more good than harm :)

If moderators want to remind people of the rules, they should PM them "/ That always works, and shows they're not there just to ban and edit posts.

If they want to put rule reminders in their signature, they can. I don't have a problem with that and don't see what the problem is either.

Me either, I personally think it is a good idea, it will help remind people of the rules which often get broken by simple mistakes.

Yes but some of them are saying 'Follow the rules', it's not like people forget about the entire set of rules and then are like 'Ahhh thanks for the reminder, I almost forgot there was rules'.

That's not doing any good at all as even when people do break the rules, it's because they haven't read them or understood them properly or perhaps they're choosing to ignore them, no one forgets about all the rules so 'Follow the rules' messages are void. The majority of the forum don't need reminding anyway as they don't break the rules.
