Turning site on and off

I know someone posted something in the tutorial's section, but after having a go none of the scripts given actually worked.

So i was wondering if anyone knows of anything than can quickly turn your site on and off?

I haven't read this tut, but do you mean a Forum and is it vBullitin? I only know how to turn that on/off hehe :P

Haha, totally forgot I posted that on there. It's not the most secure of systems but it works.
