Ok here's the deal. I am currently running windows vista, and am looking foward to upgrading to a mac (I know a new leopard coming out mid 2009 but I can't wait)

I am currently looking towards the cheapest Macbook Pro, at S$3033. I just would like to know if it would be able to

Shockwave - Habbo
Java - Runescape -New HD
Play regular flash stuff
surf most websites

Also I would like to ask

Is it worth it?
Should I get another Windows computer?
Should I get another kind of mac?

Thanks :)

a MacBook Pro just for that? :S Waste much?

MacBooks would be better suited.

Runescape isn't HD btw.

probably I will get new interests so I'd better upgrade just in case I need more for the future. This will be like my main computer for the next 4 years lol :P And by HD I mean "High Detail"

Thanks though +rep

Need to spread!

Edit/ Btw, is there any way that I can connect the Macbook Pro to a TV using the standard:

You can't upgrade much (if anything) on a Macbook PRO. Perhaps the RAM..

im not sure if you can do that, but i believe Macbooks and Macbook Pros come with a cable that allows you to hook it up to another monitor?

If you have a modern flat screen slimline television it will most probably have a port on the back for the wire that comes with the MacBook Pro.

Yes it can surf websites, go on Habbo and go on Runescape. You have to check an option with a program setting to be able to run Habbo however.

You can download Firefox 3 (or 2 if you prefer), Opera or Camino if you don't feel Safari is upto the job, I find Safari to be excellent, one of the best browsers I have ever used. It fits right into OS X.

Possibly a MacBook would be better for you, unless you want the bigger screen. Don't get a Windows computer, no. If you ever need to run Windows you can use BootCamp on OS X :)

Yeah I can get XP SP2 from my mom's company. As with the Macbook I need the graphics card of the Pro so I won't be getting a macbook. I'm gonna get it a little later though, in oct, thanks for all your help! +rep to nick, samsa and stephen :)

I'm 100% decided I won't want a windows computer anymore. Btw, the iWork, I know it works with MS office (as in in the file format) but is it any good? Office for mac is very expensive...

Im guessing you don't do things illegal then? Because office 08 for mac is pretty easy to get if you look at places. Well either way, have fun getting your mac I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Without wanting to de-rail the thread, I just want to point out that iWork '08 is a fantastic little set of applications. I would encourage you not to disregard it; MS Office 2008 is, in my opinion, a terrible product with stability issues. Some people need it for its more advanced features or closer compatibility, but iWork '08 has never let me down in the past year.

Yeah I really need the compatibility because my school is mostly on Windows. My teacher who used iWork for his MBP told me that he had to switch to office:mac because of this issue too.

Thanks though +rep

Sorry but that's pure crap.

You can export your iWork documents as Word files, PDF's, RTF and all sorts of other file types. I always have to use files at school and at home, and the cross compatibility has never been an issue. :S

The compatibility isn't an issue, although the document doesn't function as well as I'd like it to, compared to how it functioned in the parent program.

Okay, MacBook Pro = a no no. You don't need the graphics for Habbo and Runescape, nor will you ever need the power of a MacBook Pro.

I currently have a MacBook and my flat mate has a MacBook Pro, we are both in the web design industry so often work with large file sizes with Photoshop. However he says that he has wasted a lot of money by getting the Pro as a MacBook would of done the job just as well (maybe a tad slower). In no way do you need the power a MacBook Pro has to offer when you are most likely never going to encounter the need for the power.

Save yourself £600 or whatever and just go with maybe a Black MacBook? It's going to give you the power you need for what you are wanting to do. Got to realise that Mac OS treats programs differently to how Windows does. You'll find things just run a lot smoother and quicker.

On the note of documents and whatever else, don't get iWork, Office:mac or OpenOffice. Search for a site called Google, it has an amazing piece of online software which can do everything you need :P

I'm getting the MBP because of whether it will last my needs. In the future, I may want to play graphics intensive games that may require the pro's extra capability. On the topic of office:mac, I really need it as it'll be difficult to change to a different type of software. Besides, I prefer the form factor of the MBP :P

reppage for all though :)

@nick., I know it works, but I've seen on the web and there seems to be some sorta compatibility issues with some people, besides i'm more familiar with office and I need support for .docx and other office 2007 documents as the computer I use atm uses it.

I'm in the same boat as you kind of. I currently have a Mac Mini, and I need something with a bit more power. So I'm thinking about selling this with the screen and such and the money will go towards buying a MacBook. Just need to work the costs all out and see if its the right thing for me to do. If you want to get the MPB then go for it.

Yea, I really need something that is futureproof, because I am poor :( and I can't change computers often like some people :P So I need something that will be powerful enough to play games like wow stuff like that in the future
