School network has died

Oh dear lol. The file server crashed today and all work from 12pm yesterday onwards has been lost as they backup every day at 12pm.

Three pages of my DT coursework are gone because i didn't have my memory stick :)

The technicians were going mad "/. Major hardware failiure apparently

And the best bit it, the server is being completely replaced on monday after we break up

Our school is slightly lacking behind yours, emailing with your own email is prohibited and the school don't give out email address's either. All the USB Slots in every computer have been disabled so it's near enough impossible to backup.

And, My school have set up some thing where you can get onto hotmail but only for like a little while :S
And then it just does the not responding crap.

at my school we get our own email adresses e.g ----[at]heathfield.leics.sch.uk also we can put USB Sticks in but they dont like us to :) but we do anyway. Also we can save on teh the school netowork adn get onto the network at home and view our work and files from an RMEasy link thingy

Our school are quite relaxed, they just stop us being able to go on naughty sites and change computer settings and will limit our access to a safe list for a week if caught using a proxy.

We can use USB, though it reformats mine and gets destroyed :(
Then we have a school email, that doesn't work really, well it did.
And we have a file uploader which I just use.

So it's pretty relaxed, other that RM Safety Filter on IE and FF and NetOp.

Only thing that isn't secure is the Task Manager (and cmd I think) haha.

My school is kinda weird, we had 3 computer rooms and the network was fast when everyone was logging on. When we got new (crap) RM PC's they added another Computer room and we had only 1 server it was lagging like a 1MB vista pc. So they bought a new server and its still slow. We are always losing data on our network, we have email addresses as well lastnamef01(AT)klz.org.uk. We can't even access our files from home so I'm like stuffed because i have coursework I need to finish for Monday and its in school.

I know i kinda went off topic but schools have no idea on data protection to be honest. Also I hate the web filters we can't go on "Uncategorised" websites.

My school has no school emails for pupils. We can use USB sticks but we have to get the teacher to do it as most have been disabled on the computer. The network is ok I guess, saving isn't a problem. Google Mail works, so I guess we can use that to send back home with coursework etc. But we have web filters and a system where the teachers can look at everyones screen, block internet fully.

simple as pie :P network sucks though, security is crap, they are very tight on web use though :P about half the school is on the white list for websites which means they can only go on certain websites which are given on a online list when they login. Oh and the space is messed up, one half of the school is allowed as much as they want, no limits atall so when you go on right click>properties they have 120GB available to them but the other half of the school is only allowed 100mb each, kinda unfair how that works. Its just random people in years that dont get limited too.

lmao, our school has project64 emulators everywhere which i didnt *cough* send around the network bundled with a pile of games lol and yet somehow our school has quake 3 on aswell :S dont know who did that though lol

The block filter mainly blocks porn and forums, everything else is pretty good. i can get on hotmail, and my personnel school email. I have like 80 gb of space in my personnel area, which is taken up by music and work. and the servers quite recently have been crashing a lot lol.

Oo, someone who maybe lives kinda near me. I'm at the sixth form at The Blue Coat School at the moment.

We don't have emails here we are allowed our own. Web filter is easily disabled (I changed our schools proxy server) so now everyone gets those pesky "google thinks your a virus" alerts when googling. :) My old schools email was 11258(student id)@teignmouth.devon.sch.uk.

At my school right now we have freekin access to the terminal. ;/. Yes, I am an admin. I don't see much to do though... i mean really..? I think we have ~5tb storage. I don't know why. At my new high school (us-wise) we have ~20tb and mac pros/g5s and i think our admins have sun blade

At my school they have just started to bring in school email addresses and on the school website you can upload files. The teachers can also set assignments which you then submit over the website (apart from nobody uses it yet because it doesnt work properly).

We can get on hotmail / yahoo mail etc with no limits, we can use USB sticks on any PC in the school whenever we want. Proxys are realy hard to find though as most are filtered.

Overall I would say our school network is pretty good, if you do something wrong one of the admins will ban you from the network, when they ban you it automaticly sends an email to your head of year explaining why they were banned, the only way you can get unbanned is to get a letter from the head of year... which means you have to explain to them why you were on naughty sites lol.

We get a new server like every 3 years and the whole networks gets an overhaul at the same time.
