Toddlers who turn their noses up at spicy food from overseas could be branded racists by a Government-sponsored agency.

The National Children's Bureau, which receives £12 million a year, mainly from Government funded organisations, has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care.
This could include a child of as young as three who says "yuk" in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food.
The guidance by the NCB is designed to draw attention to potentially-racist attitudes in youngsters from a young age.
It alerts playgroup leaders that even babies can not be ignored in the drive to root out prejudice as they can "recognise different people in their lives".
The 366-page guide for staff in charge of pre-school children, called Young Children and Racial Justice, warns: "Racist incidents among children in early years settings tend to be around name-calling, casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships."
It advises nursery teachers to be on the alert for childish abuse such as: "blackie", "Pakis", "those people" or "they smell".
The guide goes on to warn that children might also "react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuk'".
Staff are told: "No racist incident should be ignored. When there is a clear racist incident, it is necessary to be specific in condemning the action."
Warning that failing to pick children up on their racist attitudes could instil prejudice, the NCB adds that if children "reveal negative attitudes, the lack of censure may indicate to the child that there is nothing unacceptable about such attitudes".
Nurseries are encouraged to report as many incidents as possible to their local council. The guide added: "Some people think that if a large number of racist incidents are reported, this will reflect badly on the institution. In fact, the opposite is the case."

This is getting pathetic - People are now racist for not liking spicy foods?
So if a indian doesn't like Fish & Chips - They're racist? No. I didn't think so - These things never swing both ways. Yet, its our country.

pfft, it's racist making up all these rules. For the seven hundredth time, they aren't offended by it yet stupid rules like ' policedogs must wear muslim hats when in muslim synagogues to avoid offence' is causing a scene out of nothing.

Yes, I'm against racism but they seem to use 'racism' as a rule for everything these days...

You can be labeled a racist for saying 'yuk' to foreign food? Right o, nice to know the person behind this decision has less brain cells than these children. Food is something everyone should like, it's sooo obvious it's stupid talking about it. If a child doesn't like the food they're given, they are allowed to say "YUCK!" Surely it depends if the child says, "Ooo Indian food? Served by Indians?! Ewww, yuck!" That'll make them racist, but not "Ewww, Indian food. I don't like spicy food/food with spices." Indian food is usually what children label curries and spicy dishes, it doesn't mean they're directly insulting another race :/ Stupid.

I actually find this quite funny because socially small children are the least racist of all ages because they dont judge people on the colour of their skin because they see everyone as equal. Racism is usually devoloped when someone gets older and starts getting their own opinions/absorbing their parents opinions.

Right I'm actually shocked at the way everyone is behaving about this. First of all they didn't say it's racist to say 'Yuk' at indian food they basicly said that they should be taught to be more respectful to other culinary traditions. You know what the media is like trying to pick out on tiny things meaning everybody else ignores the important problems this rule is addressing. So you all basicly think it's alright for 3 year olds to be walking around saying the word pakis?

If they spat food out and said the p word then its racist but yuk is not.
They have been told to report children as young as 3 for being potentially racist in any way but one o those ways is spiting out or disliking foreign food they try :s the department here would not answer questions on the report :o they just tried to shift all the blame to the report writer. they are all fools :eusa_wall

Thanks for backing my idea up on the fact your all ignoring the important parts. They never said it was being raicst saying 'Yuk' they said that the toddlers should be taught to respect other cultures at a young age, and that's a bad thing? The main part of the report is that children shouldn't be allowed to shout racist abuse at other people but everybody is ignoring that and picking out on something that they haven't even said!

I have not read the full story that i linked to i read it elsewhere and i also listened to a radio show on it and quite clearly teachers, childminders etc have been or will be asked to report children not liking foreign food to the local authoity as a potential racist incident.
We all know you shouldnt shout racist things at people and if the people who put this report together have just realised this they are total ******s.

Oh god haha.

"Potentially racist" is an excellent term, anyone has the potential to be racist lol so it gives them a reason to discipline anyone they want. It's like saying if you look at an item in a shop window you could be arrested as a potential thief haha.
