For other uses, see Philosopher's stone (disambiguation) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosopher%27s_stone_%28disambiguation%29).
The philosopher's stone (Latin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_language): lapis philosophorum; Greek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_language): chrysopoeia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysopoeia)) is a legendary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend) substance, supposedly capable of turning inexpensive metals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal) into gold (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold); it was also sometimes believed to be an elixir of life (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elixir_of_life), useful for rejuvenation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rejuvenation_%28aging%29) and possibly for achieving immortality (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immortality). For a long time it was the most sought after goal in Western (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_culture) alchemy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alchemy).
In the view of spiritual alchemy, making the philosopher's stone would bring enlightenment upon the maker and conclude the Great Work (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnum_opus).[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosopher%27s_stone#cite_note-0)

He's not talking about Harry Potter - he's talking about the legend in general.

So the philosophers stone was based on a real story? Sorry if I sound dumb but I was never really one for the Harry Potter stories :)

Only in title really. The "philosopher's stone" in traditional legend is actually an item which would turn ordinary metals to gold, not something to gain immortality with as in the Harry Potter books
Santa Claus
Because its true. He lives in the North Pole. Duh!
