Toa Habboa! We are the Tikitoa! And this is our song.
“Toa Habboa!
We are the Tikitoa! Ka ora! Ka ora!
Thus came to be that the gods Rangi and Papa (Father Sky and Mother Earth) got married and created the universe using Mana, eternal energy of life and spirit. Then they pulled the Rangirangi archipelago up from the bottom of the ocean with a magic fishhook.
One day the gods created the first Tikitoa, Habboa, and after her or him (no one knows if Habboa was woman or man) the rest of our great tribe. Habboa was a hero amongst us and a VIP unparalleled. He loved to date and eat and fish and hunt and sing and dance and be a TV star and drink and be merry. After the Gods slapped Habboa left and right, he started also to work (somehow), much to his dismay.
We Tikitoa thrived for a long time. We worked hard (not Habboa) and partied hard (oh yes, Habboa). Then something happened, lost in the mist of time. Maybe it was Habboa who fell in love with a beautiful Tikitoa, who - isn’t it always so ? - sadly broke his heart. Or maybe it was the other men from afar, who invaded Rangirangi and spoiled the place.
Whatever the reason, we took our canoes and migrated to a new land. Guided by Habboa, we found a secluded spot in this strange place and built a new Rangirangi with our Mana and our Tiki furni. Before ascending into the sky, Habboa left us a message: “Learn the new ways and, when the time comes, greet newcomers into the Tribe”.
That time is now.
Toa Habboa! Ka ora! Ka ora!”
- As sung by the Kahuna (Shamans) on the shores of Rangirangi
THE TRIBAL LAWS
- You shall be part of the Tikitoa and thrive in the responsibility and the fun
- You shall respect the land and your fellow living creatures
- You shall not steal or be cowardly
- You shall choose a path or more: the warrior, the kahuna (shaman) or the party animal
- You shall give yourself to the tribal partying
- You shall strive to conquer Mana like Habboa did
- You shall help all your friends in need, whether Tikitoa or not
- You shall sing and dance the Haka Habboa
- You shall build your own island, surf the wave, thread the rugby pitch, be as hot as hell and be on Tiki TV
- You shall enjoy life!
