My iPod Touch has broke, help?

OK. So I gave it to someone to jailbreak it however they have sort of broke it. Whenever I turn it on theres aload of text which scrolls to fast to read then it comes up
"BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0"
I've tried resetting it by pressing the menu and the power button, tried plugging it into my laptop yet it doesn't display on itunes. any idea's on how to fix it?

Hold down the power and home button whilst plugging it in then once you've plugged it in let go of the power button but keep hold of the home button. :)
