You could've spent an extra $30 for an 8800...

You could've spent an extra $30 for an 8800...Yeah that'd be the right thing to do. It looks okay for a reasonably basic gaming computer. Should be good for media and home computing though.

I'd browse around a bit more and try to get your prices down, they're not the absolute best, what are you doing for an OS?

These prices are canadian.. hope you realize that.

I may just wait on a graphics card then buy:
XFX GeForce 9600 GT XXX Video Card
$176

Harddrive:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB Hard Drive - 7200RPM, 32MB, SATA-300, OEM $80

*The harddrive will come after. I will be using my current stuff for a couple months

SLi usually decreases performance, it only increases in certain games under certain conditions and isn't worth it.

thanks tawn.. it would be more for bragging rites.. really the whole rig is about bragging, i rarely game. it will more likely be used for video editing, flash work and photoshop work.

Get a mac, haha.

Nah it looks pretty good. But Tawm is sort of right about the performance reduction of SLi. It doesn't decrease performance at all, you just see no-difference unless your playing a game that utilizes both efficiently. However within the year there are rendering tools for Adobe Premier which will allow you to render with CPU's and GPU's (video editing rendering), and it will be insanly good to have SLi if thats what your looking at.

SLI'ing two 8500GT's would be pointless.

Not when they release GPU support for HD video rendering... That way you would have a quad core + 2 GPU's which would make for incredible speed rendering.

Of course you could always get a mac pro for video editing. :) Slightly pricey though.

A single 8800 would still be better than both 8500's combined

Oh I thought he would be SLi-ing 8800's. A single 8800 would be better then.

A good point by matt. For what you are doing a mac would accually be pretty good for you.

Photoshop you can get on mac
flash you can get on mac

For video editing as well you get alot better softwear for that with mac, Final cut HD express or Final cut HD pro. Verry good programs and really one you know a bit about it can make some verry good videos.

The only thing is gameing, i am not gonna big the mac up saying gameing on it is amasing because its not. But you did say you dont do mutch so maybe just consider the mac ?

Mac's would probably be better for what he's doing but they are a fair bit out of his price range.

Mac's are good but I do game enough to want a pc still. am i right in thinking the 9200 is better performance than a 8800?

Stephen!

No. Just because the number is higher, doesn't mean it's better

Sorry I ment a 9600*

It depends.

The 9600GT is better than the 8800GS, which is the entry level gfx card in the 8800 series.
