Flubbed - Design and Logo

Well the other day i posted a layout to which i explained what this is so i won't explain it again. If you could give feedback on the design and logo that would be great and if you would visit the website as this is part of my market research. Actually, ill include the post in this message:


Okay, since its summer ive decided to start a project. It will be a teen based site which delivers global news along with national and possibly local (ie, leicestershire, lancashire etc) should it get popular. It wont only be a news site. It should provide users with teenage views on gadgets, movies, tv programmes, books, games anything. I thought to myself that all the reviews that are done on websites and in magazines are probably done by 30 year olds and dont particularly know what we as teenagers like. It could put people off buying things that are actually really good for teens.

Moving on swiftly.. I would like to incorporate a user system that will allow the user to change the colour to whatever hex code they like. I WILL need some help with this, mainly coding the php and other things that are not HTML and CSS related (im fine with them).

It doesnt particularly matter. I mean look at some names of big companies... Apple, Google, Orange, O2. Youd have no idea what any of those did if you had just seen them for the first time. I agree with you that the layout needs changing but i think the logo is fine. Maybe tweaking the actual image a bit but thats it

Google was created by computer 'nerds' and a google is a mathematical term



Orange's logo is an orange square



O2's name was thought of by a hired company and came up with this:

I can easily remember the name, its one of the names which actually sticks in my mind unlike alot. I like the logo its different and works with the layout.

I read this thread, went away and posted when I cam back. When I was away, then was the time I was trying to remember. Not exactly short term memory, it's such a stupid name to create a site with. At least base it around what you're doing or make it catchy.

It's not modern, lets face it. For modern, turn to the likes of Youmeo, Twitter, TheMattinator (that site is lovely!) etc, not what you have with the blocky blues and far too much colour. Look at the grey diagonals, too. Not really modern.

Themattinator ill give to you is modern but twitter? come on that site layout is crap imo. It looks horrible. Youmeo isnt that much better but its passable. And ill say it again. Not particulary, it's a nice design, the logo colours are a bit dark, but it's nice.

Bebo has no reference to social networking, Habbo Hotel doesn't have reference to MMOCC, FifteenK doesn't have a reference to multi-media.

I think that the header/navigation area at the top is a great start but as I scroll down the layout seems to become lazy, its just the same thing resized, try using more colours the blue is okay but that's all there seems to be, finally everything just hits you at once you need to center the viewers attention on something or else there be gone in a flash.

As for the logo I think you've done a great job but why are you using a diffrent logo on the layout to what you've designed? Also on the bigger version of the logo I think you need to work on it, when it's small it looks good but when it's big it doesn't.

Instead of only accepting good comments why not use the not so great comments and make your projects and designs better? Why do you have to defend it? Not everyone is going to like everything you do so why not at least try and make as many as possible will like it by listening to what they say instead of dismissing it?

Still not sure on the speech bubles though, I think its because everything on the layout is aligned clean & simple & the speech bubles are suddenly all at random..

Doesn't look bad but doesn't seem eye-catching either

The goal of a logo is to stick in someone's mind.. meaning as soon as they see it they remember exactly what it's from
Current one seems like something I'd see every day in every color/shape if you get my point, If I saw it I wouldn't remember what it's from

Janczyk is the glorious Mr Rose to clear it up ;) Anyway, I quite like the design but I disagree with what you said about it being too columny. I think it's better to have a well structured design. The logo is alright, but as Oli said it's a bit generic. Try a more unique logo mark. Good luck.

Design and logo wise, I like it but seems too crouded with an overflow of the particular theme color. Break it up with some white area's, with the chosen color and you have definatly got a stronger design. Logo I love, but design for me is letting the idea down.
