I think under the networking tab on everyones profile, there should be a 'social groups' section, where anyone can make there own group (instead of group memberships where the admin adds them). So for example there could be a group for the KKK etc.
Example - http://forums.x10hosting.com/groups/

Since we've not heard anything on it, people assume things.

Fair points :P I don't know exactly how, when and where it'll be used but I remember setting all the permissions up during the forum upgrade and of course some top secret conversations. But I'm saying nothing :D

Well frankly, it should be a VIP feature to create 'clubs' and a members feature to join them. Thats the only way I could see it going for HxF, and I rather like the sound of that anyway. There wont be a load of junky groups around. Groups with less than 5 members after a month of them being created can then be pruned automatically. :)
See, I just made your life a whole lot easier.

I actually agree with you :S wth
I think the groups should be moderated so that it's actually needed, so you don't get people making loads of random crap like "spoon lovers" or something. The idea of a groups function would be best for actual social groups rather than just interests

Don't worry, he's referring to the fact that I break everything I touch :P In-jokes don't translate to everyone else unfortunately.

Everything will be moderated, with the general maturity level of this forum everything NEEDS to be moderated unfortunately. We wouldn't let something like this go without moderation.

Not really, it's something we all joke about in the mod section. :)

Theres a link on your profile which says 'Join Social Groups' and has been for ages. I told MAD a while back when I saw it and he said we wouldn't be getting it.

If we do get it, I think it should be for VIPs only. Makes VIP more worthwhile, and also will reduce the spam groups! :P
(Maybe for Platinum members too!)

But, perhaps I want to network with other users who like to spoon.

Mayyybe you could apply to be a "group leader" and be given special permissions to set up your own group if you're successful. That'd definately cut down on the spam groups AND make you feel important :P GO BRAINWAVES

I definitely think that if groups are implemented they should only be created on a request/accept basis, ie member requests to create a group and that has to be accepted by admin/management before the group is made, so you'd have to have a genuine reason for the group to be set up.

Social groups atm are simply not worth enabling. vBulletin 3.8 will improve social groups quite a bit as you will be able to have social group discussions a bit similar to Habbo home topics. We can then re-evaulate our decision on enabling them or not. They might still be too isolated to have any good use.
