Its MS's fault, they asked Bungie to not annouce it, and as someone over on the Bungie Forums said, its just because they're money grabbing _________'s and want to cash-in on GOW2 before any competion.

But surely if M$ are going to let Bungie create a game for their console they are allowed some say in it?

Well, Microsoft own all rights to the Halo franchise. It would be kinda hard to release a new Halo under a different publisher :P

I think it could be a squad-based shooter, with a storyline similar to R6V2, running parallel to the previous games.

Yeah, it won't be called Halo 4. The reason for this is that Bungie confirmed Halo 3 was the end of the story arc for Master Chief, but there was most likely going to be more games within the halo universe. It could be before the events of halo 1-3, during, or even after.
