I went to see this today after convincing some friends that Mamma Mia would not be a wise choice for a Saturday evening's entertainment, and managed to get them to have their first taste of independent cinema, with Donkey Punch being shown in one of the cinemas in my area - it is limited syndicated release.

I'd say it was "good". It enters the territory of terror at sea and pulls it off well for a survival horror, especially a British one. The dialogue is sometimes laughable, in a bad way, literally, some of the lines were so badly constructed that the audience actually laughed. There are some fairly decent deaths for a low-budget feature, but a completely unspectacular "final" death, which really just spat on an entertaining climax. Character development was pretty confusing in places and it was so-so acted, but it had its charm and an element of forgiveness for being an independent film that actually made it into cinemas, even though it was a limited release. ANyway, I really have to go, this laptop's battery expires in about 10 seconds.

I was going to make a thread about this film, I want to see it, but not many of my friends do. It's supposedly "vile and disgusting"?

Looks absolutely awful tbh, I understand it's independant but still.. I don't think I'll be paying to see it unless I go with a group for the comedy of it

James King on Radio 1 said the first half had the potential to be a great film with all the build up to it and it properly captured the sleaze and excitement of being on holiday in places like where they went. But he went on to say they buggered it up in the second half when it got all horror/thriller/survival w/e. He said that if the second half was done better it would've been great. but did you think the same?

Lol I wouldn't even give this film my time or money. Nothing about it entices me to watch it... I may as well watch Teeth.

I don't understand why some of these films are made. There are so many horror films that are based around one theme, like Teeth with Vagina Dentanta... the directors seem to really think they can conjure 2 hours of entertainment on just a phobia. Snakes on a Plane were a little more daring by having two themes, Snakes and heights--ooooo scary.

"Vile and disgusting"... well, I've seen far too much of that in my lifetime, so I wouldn't go that far with Donkey Punch. There is full-frontal male nudity, an overly lengthy sex scene, so-so deaths in terms of brutality.

I agree with it being said that the second half of the film let it down overall. I wouldn't call it bad, it had its enjoyable moments, but it really was not something that could be taken seriously, and I am not speaking from my own personal opinion, as the audience of the nearly full screening, agree. Some of the dialogue was so badly written that it made the actors look incredibly stupid, a death involving a flare gun pretty much made everyone burst out laughing, and also the "donkey punch" that the film is centred around is just so hilariously bad. In its entirety, it had its parts of spectacular terribleness, but at the same time had some good sequences. I'd say it's more for "specialist" horror fans than a casual filmgoer, after all, it's a indy picture, so tread carefully if you're planning on going to see it.

I'm 50/50 on seeing it. :P

I've got premiere tickets to see Dark Knight.
It's the same cinema, for the Cardiff premiere with Christian Bale. :D
I'm in the gallery/VIP section, so hopefully he'll be there also!

So maybe I'll see Donkey Punch.
