View Full Version : Computer Question
basically if i made a new account for my computer so my brother can use it, does it mean that if my brother goes on it and accidently downloads a virus/keylogger or something bad *by mistake*,
when I return to my computer, WILL I BE AFFECTED by it?
Example:
"My account to login into my computer"
Creates new account*
Brother goes on new account and downloads something that contains a virus/keylogger by mistake.
I return to my comptuer and DELETE the new account I set up for my brother
then
USE my own account *which I had before*.
Will I get affected by the keylogger/virus etc...?

It depends on the virus, but in most cases, yes.
You can use Virtual PCs instead, which run as a mini PC inside your PC which is totally cut off and so cannot spread viruses to your computer.

You do not require a password.
You cannot install software or hardware.
You cannot change the Guest account type.
You cannot create a password for the account.
You cannot change the Guest account picture.
You cannot access the applications that have already been installed on the computer.
You cannot access the files in the Shared Documents folder.
You cannot access the files in the Guest profile.

In most cases the virus will affect one of the system files, so yes, it will be spread throughout the system. I also suggest that you create him a guest account, or simply making him scan any files he downloads with www.virustotal.com before opening them (if it is downloading that he needs the computer for).
