The whole point is that you pay for the images.. Yet they offer a nice little popup box so you can just screenie the whole page and pick off the icons/images. Yes, they have a scrummy little watermark that does absolute nothing. They also offer a free viewing of the files when you click on the image it takes you to the gallery and you click "Download a comp" and they make it easier for you.. Just thought I'd say.
What is your opinions on this?

Pointless money-making site tbh.
Same with iStock Vector, you can easily vector your own GFX or rip them. :P

You are paying for the right to use them, you dont have the right to use it.
Not paying for them to soley remove the water mark.

See, people who steal things and use them without rights should have no access to the internet.

Although you can easily find images on Google, I think it's pointless.
But still a decent service. :P

I'm not saying you shouldn't pay for them, people have worked hard to produce them icons but iStock are doing naff' all to protect the images. Thats what the thread intension was about, not stealing the images :P

They shouldn't have to watermark them, or prevent people from stealing them.
Danny, I thought you were dead or something?

Danny, I thought you were dead or something?I agree but there will always be people wanting things for free. They should put a better watermark over the images or maybe even make a little flash application so the user can put a watermark over the image themselves and also determine the opacity? Saves people moaning at iStock :P

pahaa
Nah just sorted my life out x
Well even getting images from Google isnt legal really, it still requires getting permission from the web master(s). sxc.hu is good, and its free.
Some sites will allow you to use the images, some photographers on Flickr will also allow this. ;)
Yes they should protect their content better.

I prefer taking my own photographs.
(No Darren, don't you bother replying going "WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU HAVE" trying to act smart as the answer is Nikon D300)

I really dothink they need to add better protection to the images. But the owner of the image uploads it to iStock knowing full well the image could be stolen because of iStock's crappy watermark.

Danny, I thought you were dead or something?Same :P
Are you coming back on HxF Danny? Or is this just a one time thing? (:
I didn't know that I have to buy the image. Lol. Anyways, can't be bothered going to íStockhPhoto. Just go to Google.co.uk » Images » Search for whatever you need.

It's people like you that don't deserve the privilege of the Internet. You wouldn't go into a shop and just take their things would you? No. Same principle applies here - you don't just search Google and take other people's pictures.

I am currently going through the iStock application process, and I can tell you now they are very strict when it comes to useage of this images. If you are found using an image illegally, they will come down on you like a ton of bricks.
You may say it is a crummy watermark, however why do you want an image at say 500x350? My images I can sell up to 3888x2592, which is worth the user downloading. You loose the quality when printscreening such a small image, and you will soon be caught out.
'could be stolen because of iStock's crappy watermark.' - At the end of the day I still own the image, and can legally sue anyone caught using that image who does not have the invoice from iStock or myself to the usage of that image. I could sue the perso for theft, using stolen property on a website, plus lose of earnings :)

I'm using your photos illegally? Gonna sue me? :D
When your on an image on that site, change the /2/ to a /3/, 4 or 5 as it changes the copyright. Also if you just remove it it makes the image smaller and removes the copyright.
