Or do you have to be legally 18 to sell 18s?

Thanks

of course you have to be over 18 to sell 18 games, I don't think they hire under 18s.

I assume they do since who would know games better than a teenager?

You don't have to be over 18 to sell age-restricted products, you just have to ask permission of a staff member who is 18+.

HMV and zavvi don't hire 16 year olds because of selling 18 dvds/games. I expect its the same in most shops, but some may. You can work in supermarkets at 16 so I don't see why other shops should be different :S

Well, that's cleared it up LOL.

Thanks, I'll apply and see what happens.

You should be able too, just everytime a 18 game comes through you will have to get someone 18+ to check that its okay to sell it to them, its the same in supermarkets for alcohol and dvds

Not many game stores hire 16 yr olds, you usually have to be 18 to handle cash, and obviously to sell 18 rated games.

16 year olds can sell 18 games as long as they the go ahead from the manager, as in, if someone slams GTA on the desk, he (or she but we all know girls don't play games :P) has to call the manager or someone over 21.

Or is over 21 to sell drink? I'm thinking in terms of a supermarket :P

Alcohol has the Think 21 rule. Dealing with alcohol is far more strict than age-restricted media - I've seen under 18s working in these stores before - so it confirms that they do hire, you just have to ask someone 18 or over to sell said products.

Hey,

When I applied for a job in Game (I wasn't told at the time but) they said they only tend to hire people who are in part-time education or out of education all together.

They also said that sometimes they turn down younger people for insurance reasons, and some stores like the one I applied in will only hire people who are 18+

This was quite a similar policy in other shops in my area too :)

Hope it clears some stuff up, but you might as well apply and just see what they say - Even if you don't get in they will probably keep your application on file so if a position becomes available you might still have a chance!

(Is it just where I live but why do shops like Gamestation only hire complete idiots in their stores, I mean they have people who have never touched a game in there life and seriously have no retail experience lol)

Some stores hire people based on selling expertise as opposed to game knowledge. Thats how I got hired at Christmas (apart from blagging stuff about retro games) and then I learnt it as I went along. :)

What I was told by one of the people working there.
