Well I'm building a small forum (nothing major) and I'm going to use smarty for the templates, saw smarty was in a way using OOP coding. Is this just going to waste my time or should I learn it?

Well I wouldn't say it was actually something you 'learn', it is just another technique and method to coding.

You really probably already know it, but you just haven't mastered how to control it.

I suggest you read up on it, I know when I started devving into it that I never went back ;)

Hear hear to your second sentence. Do you think it's worth spending the time learning it? Obviously I'm going to learn a tad due to me wanting to edit the smarty coding.

I'd say it is.

As Caleb has mentioned, it's a whole new technique and as Simon also said.
Just like AJAX to Javascript. :P

Caleb went through some of the simple things with me with them and I must say it not only gives you a more structured end result, but it speeds up the whole coding time, as do using functions compared to the old school out of function way.

You did a really good job Caleb, <3.

They are really simple when you actually see how they work.

If your wanting to write a large script - eg a forum, then you really must use OOP otherwise your code will be messy and all over the place.

So yes, its something every PHP coder must know. The php article on OOP is a great place to start.
