Okay so she randomly logged onto her mac today and her password didn't work so she went into instructions etc and it said to put the install disc 1 in and then hold "C" when the computer starts etc. Tried doing that but it just ends up back at the login screen, also tried the other way of booting a disc and that didn't work either.
What could be the problem which is stopping the disc from booting when I hold down "C" and I'm still confused on how her password could reset or whatever randomly :S

Maybe she's gotten a virus. They can manage to do anything to a computer :P
My computer barely starts because of a virus. Lol. Don't use my computer anymore. use my mom's :D

And yes, Macs can get viruses.
But to me, it just sounds like your not booting from the disk properly, because Macs don't use generic, easy to maintain hardware, I don't have a clue how to make it boot from disk, sorry.

What version of Mac OS X you got? (Latest Mac OS X chances of a virus is slim unless downloading torrents)

No offence but most of this forum have never even used a mac so most wont know. I would try a proper mac forum http://macrumors.com will set you straight.

I download torrents all the time and I never get viruses. You just need to look at the comments under where you download the .torrent file from to see if anyone says it has a virus.

Hi,
Try holding down the "alt option" key whilst it's booting up. I'm new to Macs myself, but that's how it works on my MacBook Pro at least.
Good luck.
