From Msn News:
A Qantas flight from London made an emergency landing in the Philippines after plunging 20,000ft.
On landing airport authorities discovered a big hole in the Boeing 747-400's fuselage near the right wing.
There were no injuries following the incident, but some of the 350 passengers vomited after disembarking, said Manila International Airport Authority deputy manager for operations Octavio Lina.
"There is a big hole on the right side near the wing," he said, adding it was 2.5 to three yards in diameter.
Flight QF 30, on its way to Melbourne, Australia, was an hour from Hong Kong when oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling during the incident.
The flooring gave way, exposing some of the cargo beneath, he said. The ceiling around the area also collapsed.
"Upon disembarkation, there were some passengers who vomited. You can see in their faces that they were really scared," he said.
Passengers who talked to the media at the airport described hearing an explosion, followed by oxygen masks dropping from the ceiling.
According to Australia's Herald Sun Online, passengers said the plane plunged 20,000 feet after the incident.
Passengers were being put up in hotels while the aircraft was being repaired.
How scary :(

Not londonIt's London to Melborne via Hong Kong for fuel :P
Sounds very adrenaline filled but it must of been very scarey. As someone has pointed out, Qantas is known as the world's safest airline as it's never had any loss of aircraft due to accidents or crashs. This won't ruin it's record as the actual plane landed okay and will be fine to use in the future once the problem(s) have been fixed.

isn't flight 811 the one where the cargo door rips of and the plane lost an entire side?
The plane has to dive otherwise they all die from oxygen starvation :$.
I wouldn't of found it scary THAT MUCH.
The whole wasn't that big but as you can see as Qantas has said to be the safest airline.
The immediete drop of oxygen masks was good and obviously they staff on board we're trained to keep calm.

did the press also mention the pilot fighting for the controls as the airplane plummeted towards the earth at a 90 degree angle, whilst the wing almost snapping off and both engines failing?
kudos to the pilot for getting down safely

yeah 811 was devastating. This crash is shocking as I am flying in like 3 weeks :( MyTravel never had an incident to my knowledge (guess who were flying with!) I found a website with details of all plane 'incidents' http://Aviation-safety.net
quite interesting!

What makes me laugh is that the press no nothing at all. So the pilot fighting for the controls can be a loud of Bull and could be so false, they just want it to make good so people will view the story.
Looking at some sources on Airliners.net and other websites, the aircraft has had an history of corrosion. So that could be the cause? Hmm.
Qantas boss Geoff Dixon has denied corrosion caused a hole in the body of the plane that was forced to make an emergency landing in Manila.
Although, he could be just saying that to save his butt!
