Hiya, I'm not an expert at all at HTML so I prefer to use editors which can do some of the code for you and allows previewing. I used to use Frontpage but it's a bit tacky, old and I don't have a copy of it anymore so I'd rather try a new one. Dreamweaver is a bit too advanced and confusing for my liking :P
Preferably free software but I'll use a key-gen if need be for paid software.

If you're on a Mac: use Coda (http://www.panic.com/coda/). I do suggest Dreamweaver otherwise, I don't see how it's 'too complex' for you. It's a WYSIWYG editor - which is what you're aksing for.

Notepad++
Ive never used Dreamweaver and i never will. Abdobe products cost way more than they should do and Dreamweaver tends to do all the coding for you.

Notepad 2
Doesn't get better and simpler than that ;).
Don't use WYSIWYG editors as they won't actually really teach you how to code, they'll just do everything for you and most off the time the output of the code is rubbish and tacky.
Stick to using plain simple text editors such as Notepad2 (It's basically notepad but with syntax highlighting enabled).
I use two programs when I'm using HTML, those two are Adobe Dreamweaver and Microsoft Frontpage. You can't get font page any more, so it would have to be Microsoft Expression Web.
If you wanted to do PHP, which once you start HTML, you will do, I use ZendStudio.
Good Luck :)

Dreamweaver CS3 for me, I just make sure the code is nice and clean while I am doing it.

Who buys things nowadays?
My Zend is keygenned :eusa_whis
Notepad ++++++++++++++++++++++
:D
NVU is the best free one in my opinion, but dreamweaver would produce the best results.
I find dreamweaver annoying when it automatically closes your tags, cos I'm used to doing it myself ;P
