View Full Version : BrightWightImages - iStock Seller Status

Hello!

After the brilliant feedback from my previous thread about Bright Wight Images, I thought I would update you on our new status. As of this evening, I am now an official iStockPhoto seller - this give Bright Wight Images even more scope and a bigger portfolio.

Bright Wight Image's first outing is next Tuesday, covering a local children’s carnival, with the main procession on Wednesday. Following that, Skandia Cowes Week is the biggest event of the year. Working alongside onEdition, the official photographers, I look to take professional images with the scope of iStock quality. More events come after this, including a local festival.

I look to continue the development of Bright Wight Images, and the possible chance to move into wedding photography as of September. I will keep you, the users updated on the progress, and I hope you enjoy the photos displayed on the website. I have this morning updated the 'Event Images' section with some of the latest pictures done for my client, IOWCC - They are very impressed with the images and wish for me to do more. Even got a little plug on their site, www.iowcc.co.uk (http://www.iowcc.co.uk/).

Any questions/comments, please do not be afraid to ask me in this thread, or via PM.

That status means nothing if you don't sell any.

DarrenToogood

Very true indeed, however to achieve the status I have gone through a 3 month application process - This shows dedication, and also shows that the images submitted are to a high-quality.

This is great for future clients.

SyrupyMonkey,

I do not need to ask the permission to take little children. I am working on behalf of the organizers, and the children have entered the agreement of the carnival - I will not look like a dirty perv on a street corner, don't worry. Will be wearing official stuff etc.

Also, I was also worried about this fact, however it has been suggested that I hook up with someone else for a wedding or two. One of my clients has put me onto a contact, and we are currently discussing. This may still not happen.

Darren, You'll need to get permission from the parents to actually take the pictures regardless if you say you're not a prev. You will also need to get permission from the parents to put them onto the net.
Trust me, Just create a form for the parents and you should be fine, get them to sign it. I've signed name of these forms and created them.

DarrenToogood
25-07-2008, 09:34 PM
You are infact wrong. They parents sign their children up to the carnival. As I am working for the carnival, it is perfectly fine. Also it is a public event, therefore I am free to photograph anyone I wish.

xBenxx
25-07-2008, 09:41 PM
Yes, they sign them up to the carnival, not you, not BWI.

You'll need to get permission from the parents, trust me. Ask anyone else on this forum.

Dentafrice
25-07-2008, 09:43 PM
Not actually, they probably have to sign a waiver at the gate, or when they sign up.

Those waivers usually include information about accidents, etc, and that the company may take photographs during the event.

DarrenToogood
25-07-2008, 09:44 PM
Indeed Denta. 100% correct.

CoolHostUK-Dom
25-07-2008, 09:45 PM
Yeh, so if the parents come shouting abuse at them, they can say

"You signed this legally binding contract, therefore you have consented for this to happen." or somthin like tht.

DarrenToogood
25-07-2008, 09:48 PM
Plus as mentioned, will be wearing official uniform and walking with the procession, therefore not some pervert - shooting on behalf of the organizers.

CoolHostUK-Dom

Cant argue with that realy.

Dentafrice
25-07-2008, 09:49 PM
If they signed it, that means that the photographers are free to take pictures of the event.. and those can be posted/printed/blabla.

I believe that if the parents complain, and say that they didn't know it said that, that the photographers are not going to hold that waiver against them, and will be happy to delete the photographs of his/her child.

DarrenToogood
25-07-2008, 09:53 PM
On request I would always delete a picture of anyone. If I was looking to sell the images, then I would need a Model Release Form.

Excellent
25-07-2008, 09:59 PM
Jesus christ he's 15, hardly a bloody pervert is it. The parents have signed up to the carnival, in that document there will be information about photos being taken for the company. I'm sure if darren asked the company he could display them on BWI.

xBenxx
25-07-2008, 09:59 PM
Have any of you any idea of what you're talking about?

Darren you're taking picture's on behalf of this event thingy. NOT on behalf of brightwightimages.com. Unless within this 'waiver' on the gate it includes stating that pictures of you're child will be posted on blah blah blah blah then you cannot publish them onto your website.

Dentafrice
25-07-2008, 10:01 PM
I don't see where he said:

"I'm taking pictures of the carnival and plastering over my website"

he said he is taking pictures on behalf of the company.

I don't see where he said:

"I'm taking pictures of the carnival and plastering over my website"

he said he is taking pictures on behalf of the company.

Darren stated in this first thread,

" Bright Wight Image's first outing is next Tuesday, covering a local children’s carnival, with the main procession on Wednesday. "

That to me looks like its on behalf of BWI.

DarrenToogood
25-07-2008, 10:04 PM
I will be putting them on BWI, the same as they will be displayed on the carnival website. As it is a public event, I am free to take pictures as long as they are not in a pornographic nature.

Anyway, moving on... this is just one event in the big calendar I have for August. So far it looks like:

Just like the US Army contracts out weapons development and research to individual companies.

"You won't take more then 50 pictures" is a bit offending if you're asking me. You're trying to be a critic against his photography skills. If I say I'm going to score 10 goals in football and you go "You won't score more then 3, don't worry." How does that look to you then?

Excellent

I'm not trying to get his thread closed, this *** end is the one saying he won't take more then 50 pictures, I'm actually defending this Darren guy so gtho. And it is American, they spell it "Mom" Europeons/Brits tend to call it "Mum" ;) And I'm not your buddy. :(I couldn't care less about your argument with iTech. If you're mature enough you'd BOTH shutup and drop this silly argument. Stop being so selfish, it's darrens thread, not yours.

Football is different to Photography.
Football you have opponents making it harder to score.

Photography requires precision and the right shot.
Not snapping.

Now please, if you wouldn't mind leaving this thread if you persist to argue.

Darren, what part of Wales are you shooting in? :P

I'm not arguing, I'm just prooveing that you're wrong.

Good luck with these pics, I can't wait to see them.. And it's clear you are trying to take the piss out of him, why did you put "I'm from the internet!" clearly taking the piss out of that picture of him. Heck atleast hes going outside and taking pictures, you're just indoors all day making new accounts get banned and going "Back, again".

I'm leaving this thread and won't view your petty comment so don't bother replying because I won't look at it. :P

I am going to Chepstow (Wye Valley) on the Wednesday, and staying there Wednesday night. Thursday morning moving to Mertyr Tydfil, staying there Thursday night. Friday morning, going to Ludlow, staying there overnight and then shooting the Woodpecker rally on the Saturday, in Ludlow and staying there Saturday night. On Sunday driving back to the Island and stopping at some places along the way.

It is very immature if users believe that taking pictures of children has to be pornographic, or involves doing it illegally...

Off to a Moto X event in about 1/2 hour - should get some cracking shots on this lovely day!

When you say
'Special uniform' or whatever it said..
Does that mean 3/4's and a bib saying 'Media'

Nope, it means 3/4's, t-shirt and a high-vis jacket :D

Todays shooting went well - 1047 images of bikes :P

Well done on the stock photo status, obviously helps build the reputation of your portfolio. How did you manage to take over 1000 photos of bikes in a couple of hours.. take it you used some sort of sport mode?

When I have taken photos before at motorsport venues ive never been able to take that many photos unless im basicly holding down the button as they go past and hoping for the best!

Whats the next event in the pipeline for your portfolio?

DarrenToogood

Next event is Tuesday and Wednesday for me. A local carnival want me to do some shoots for them. After that it is Cowes Week working with onEdition.

Darren your clearly proud of this site but please stop posting about it. You have several different threads. It clutters up the forum, why not keep to just one thread?

Thank you for your support. I know there have been a few untrue PMs going around from my ex business partner, Josh Harris. Please ignore these PMs if you get them, I have read and it is aload of BEEPS ;)

I am looking forward to my day off tomorrow. Sort my images out from today, then wipe my card, out to the garden and have lunch outside - sounds like a plan :)

The Isle of Wight really isn't that small. 26 miles in length, provides a variety of different backdrops.

My first even, Sandown Childrens Carnival went very well yesterday, and took 1091 images. The main carnival is today, which is longer and bigger, so should get around 2500. I have a lot of sorting Thursday :(

True.

Monday I went through all the Moto X ones from Sunday, wrote down the ones I need to pick up - yet to resize them. Tomorrow I will sort through yesterdays and todays, and hopefully resize all the ones I need.

So tomorrow sorting through 3500 photos :( Still got 18 more events to do.

Update:

I am back from a rather busy night. Lots of people attended the event and I got some cracking shots, however only 1056 photos.

Will upload soon.

While searching the internet today, I came across my local county press website, and they have a video of the Sandown Childrens procession, and Mr. Muggins here was in it twice!
