Hey i was wondering whether or not i should jailbreak my ipod touch or not?

Does it affect the warranty or any existing apple-provided apps or anything like that?

Or does it dis-allow upgrading to v2?

Thanks for any advice :)

I think it voids the warrenty, but restoring it should erase the jailbroken applications etc. but i'm not sure. You can't upgrade to 2.0 as it hasn't been jailbroken yet (or has but not released) your ipod needs to be FW 1.1.4 or lower to Jailbreak it.

But the are some awesome things you can get if you do Jailbreak it. Just goto http://www.installerapps.com/ and check them out. Use ZIPhone to Jailbreak ;D

Wrong, 2.0 has now been jailbroken. Just most of the applications havn't been rewritten for 2.0 so you can't use them. The NES emulator has been rewritten I believe.

Jailbreak for 2.0 is out. How can that void warranty when you can reset the iPod to factory default?

I've had great fun with my iPod jailbroken (1.4.4) I have SNES emulator, skin packs, MSN, VNC client, loads of games, virtual drums. It's awesome!

Yeh i dont see how it can void :S?

Isnt the warranty just for hardware errors anyways?

And my ipod vers is 1.1.5

It does actually void the warrantee, fiddling with Apple firmware. Although you can restore and most traits of the activity have gone. When you restore, apple do not find out :l Thats stupid, all restore does is pretty much re-install the firmware.

I personally would jailbreak, dont let the forum make your decision, surely you do not need to rely on us! :P

1.1.5 doesn't exist.

And if you restore your iPod then apple can't tell its been jailbroken.

Actully, 1.1.5 DOES exist, it comes with the new ipods (ones without 2.0) they make you pay for 2.0 dont they

And if you look on installer.app (on an already jailbroken touch) you will see "Tweaks - 1.1.5" so yeah..

Yes, you should get it jailbroken.. i recommend downgrading to 1.1.4 first though, im not sure if most of the programs will work with 1.1.5 IF it has been jailbroken..

Sorry! Hadn't heard about that one. That's ridiculous that they're not including 2.0! What's their excuse :S

MrCraig

they'll probably say something like

"We have released the 1.1.5 update to fix all bugs later fixed in 2.0, However, users may wish to purchase the 2.0 FW to better their ipod experience by providing games etc. This extra feature is not neccessary to most users and therefore is not provided free."

Well, I did it before Windows had software out to do it, I downloaded a Jailbroken 2.0 IPSW firmware file from TPB that someone had done on a Mac, then used WinPwn to force DFU Mode and install the custom firmware, but now, you can just get WinPwn 2.0 and it will do everything for you.

Mine is jailbroken from Jailbreakme.com.

Its basicly the simplist way to do it, all u have to do is to find a 1.1.1 software download and set ur ipod back. and all u have to do is download it. u dont have to use a PC for actully jailbraking it. u need a pc to install 1.1.1

I'm thinking about bringing my ipod up to 1.1.5. what jailbreaks do you reccomend, that wont brick my ipod

ZiPhone or WinPwn are the best jailbreakers for 1.1.1 - 2.0.

Did you reboot after jailbreaking and installing some apps? Did it for me too till I rebooted, if not, restore and jailbreak again.

I have done it to my iPod Touch, and now it has like wasted alot of memory and is slow =/

Recursion

It only "wastes" as much memory as applications installed tbh.

It isn't slow if you reboot afterwards, or even try re-jailbreaking.

Well after my friend bought an iPod Touch yesterday only to realise 2.0 did not come pre-installed and their excuse is pretty much as follows:

2.0 is an optional extra, it is not vital in the running of the iPhone/iPod Touch. It is an optional software update.

But surely they shouldn't be advertising it with App Store if you have to pay for it! The guy in the apple store practically told us that it would come with it, it doesn't help that all the iPods in the Apple Store have 2.0 on them!

Just find a 2.0 Restore .ipsw file and use the shift click method to upgrade lol.
