Do you think that we should have an category for the Olympics 2008. Because the HBB and Big Brother have got their own categories...

What do you think...?

The Olympics are huge and this year I think it'll generally be quite exciting with all the Politics surrounding the games, it is of course in China and I wouldn't be surprised if China won the games which would be quite something.

Huge threads are a pain to read and catch up on, with numerous events happening every day for 20 days and speculation before-hand.

If this doesn't warrant a forum category it raises the question, what does..? Should be one made ASAP.

No it really wouldn't, the Olympics is much bigger than BB. It needs a forum.

With 6 days until the Olympics, only 1 thread has been made in the specific forum on it and even that was just to promote one users' website. I am yet to see another thread on the Olympics so how it warrants its own forum I don't know.

In addition, those who are arguing the point that HBB got it's own forum - this was because Habbo wanted fansites to run massive coverage of the event and this is a Habbo forum (the point you're all forgetting) therefore massive events on Habbo, such as HBB deoes warrant its own forum.

So how comes HabboxForum has got an category 'Big Brother' which is held like once a year. Olympics comes every 4 years, and when the Beijing Olympics are over, the management can delete the category if they want to.

Olympics are one of the major 'tournaments' in the world. Big Brother is like only for the UK and some other countries.

I know this is an Habbo-Related Fansite, but why's the point making over 200 threads in the 'Sports & Hobbies' section which is related to the Olympics, and you get messed with the football season, cricket season as well.
Well if you have your own forum category, it be much more easier and see what countries won what field event, track event etc.

The Olympics is the biggest sporting event in the world. It would be stupid to say that there will be no Olympic interest from forum users.

Big Brother is bigger and has more media coverage. If there was no Big Brother forum on here, then there would be multiple threads in Television about Big Brother because as a teenager-based website, that is the sort of thing they're into whereas a niche such as the Olympics isn't. Like I said, there has been one, maybe 2 threads about the Olympics and there's 6 days to go. To me, that isn't a good enough reason to open up a forum and I expect there to be like 10 threads throughout.

A major sporting event that has just passed, Euro 2008, didn't get it's own forum but there was multiple threads in the Sports forum because that's where it belonged and it was on for like 2 weeks, same with the Olympics whereas Big Brother goes on for 3 months. If you were to make a seperate forum for every major sporting event then it would just be silly. Yes the Olympics come round every 4 years but there's still not a big enough fanbase or demand for it.

I'm sure, with 6 days until the biggest sporting event in the world ever, there will have been more than 2 threads. I mean, feel free to prove me wrong because I like to the Olympics and always have done but I don't feel there's enough demand.

If the sports forum gets flooded with Olympic threads then a forum might be created.

BB has its own forum because when it is on (twice a year) it is very busy.

Euro 2008 is nothing. You just watch the football and thats all.

In the olympics you can see Javelin, 1500m, 800m etc.
Different events.

Nearly most of the world will be watching the Olympics supporting their own country, seeing whose winning it so far.
So there must be demand because everyone should watch atleast 1 sporting event in the olympics.

Big Brother is entertaining, but it only shows the house etc. Whereas Olympics show the most talented athletes in the world competing for the Gold Medal and be on the podium.
Not only we have the Olympics, we also have the Disabled Olympics (Forgot the name of it). So you can see also famous disabled athletes.

There are barely any threads on the Olympics though? When (if) there are loads of threads they will probably make a forum for it. All the threads on the first two pages in the Big Brother forum have posts in them created in the last 5 days, if it didn't have its own forum the television forum would be full of bb threads.

Euro 2008 is nothing. You just watch the football and thats all.
That's a very narrow minded comment considering that football is the biggest sport in the world, and thus, through the narrow-mindedness I can see we're not going to get through to you so I'm going to stop.

I'll say though, if there are a lot of threads then go for it, but there isn't yet.

I know its one of the major football tournaments in the world, i know that because i follow football myself.
But comparing to the Olympics, Euro would of been nothing.

Also more people will watch the Olympics instead of watching the new season of 2008/09

I am very certain Big Brother has less media coverage than the Olympics... The UK has more Olympic coverage than BB, no one really cares about it seems this year. This is a multi-national forum, we have americans, austrailians, britons... loads... And no threads have been created, because people in the category are only interested in football, if there was a sub-forum it would be widely used.

How am I sucking up and who to? I do think HBB is a waste of space but it's a Habbo fansite therefore it warrants it's own section.

Oh, and not all the people in there are interested in football, it's "Sports and Hobbies" therefore any Olympic discussion, which there has already been one belong in there.

Yes, and I have said that I recognise that but there has been 2 threads in that section up to date and with 6 days to go, unless there's going to be a major influx of threads in that section about the Olympics I can't see how it deserves it's own section.

That was my argument, that there wasn't enough threads in there. I'm all for it if it's popular enough - I think you might've gotten the wrong end of the stick :)

But just making 1 thread will make it hard for what event.
Someone might be talking about Javelin, somebody will go back 4 pages to view the 800m and quote it then reply.
And it be confusing.
So thats why we should have its own forum.

I do think the Olympics deserves its own forum (or at the very least a sub-forum in the Sports one). The Olympics is a time where all nations, ones that I haven't even heard of, get together, so it would be nice to see the community have the chance to do the same. Plus this year it has been predicted about 4,000,000,000 people will be watching the Olympics (albeit about a quater will be Chinese) so I can see there being a lot of interest in it. Last time the Olympics were held the forum had only been open for just over a month so I'm not sure there would have been a forum for it back then - but this year with the vast amount of members from different places I'm sure it wouldn't go unused.

I agree, the olympics is the most watched sporting event on Earth, and perhaps the interest will be even greater amonst young Brits (the primary users of this forum) given that we have a fourteen year old competing for us. Or maybe that's wishful thinking

Nevertheless, it's a massive event and deserves it's own temporay subforum under sport & hobbies.

Well tabloid newspapers report on that sort of thing (reality TV etc) due to the fact that the key demographic is entertained by such programmes. They try and appeal to their demographics to sell more copies and get more dosh.
