Why I hate virgin!

Im on their nice Fibre optic 10MB package so everything should be nice and dandy right? Wrong. For the past few weeks my internet has been slow, Im not talking 4MB or anything here Im talking less than 0.5MB. Around every 2 hours it goes down for about 10 mins before coming back up. This weekend however it took it to a new low. It keeps going down and its really really really slow. I keep trying speedtest.net but it keeps timing out because it cant detect my internet in time. After about 2 hours of trying I finally get a test, it rises to 14% before stopping, I guess its timed out again. How fast does it say my internet is? 4KBPS!!!!!!!!(Bits) I am really going to kill someone. Im paying for 10,000 and Im getting 4. Im the only one online in my house and I delibratly closed all programs except IE for the test to make it fair. I will post a screenshot when it finally uploads.

Phone virgin, if you're sure it is 4 kb's... but thats ridiculously slow? Like.. would have been considered slow in the pre-broadand era.

I suggest contacting Virgin Media to see if theres any faults around your area. Maybe you need a new modem or something?

If your using wireless broadband, change/activate a password for your connection, as mentioned above, your internet connection could be robbed by little rebels -_-

My WiFi is encrypted, Im not a fool he he. Its up to 150kbps now, after earlier it seems so fast now even though its so slow ^^

Virgin don't guarentee full speeds all the time, change your encryption method to WPA and make a new key + rename your router, then restart it.

(WPA is a lot safer, most companies set WPA or no security to distributed routers)

Restarting your router should make it faster, not too sure why.

Still problems? Contact virgin.

My reasons above are to make sure that your under higher security and also renaming it will save problems with changing everything in wireless auto config.

Maidenhead is my reccomended server because Im not too far for it and I have WPA encryption. Its gone up to 800KBPS. Apparently Virgin were doing mantience, shame they didnt warn me before. 800KPBS is still awful for a 10MBPS broadband anyway.

Yup, maidenhead is screwed, my ping is not 430. and my internet speed is a heck of a lot faster.

According to the maidenhead server i have a down speed of 900kbps lololol and london says 19,000

If you had such a speed, it'd be extremely hard to even post here. Only use SpeedTest as a guide, and, as others have said, use Dublin/London.

Compared to you Virgin Media customers, that's not a bad speed for living in the countryside lol. I'd contact Virgin immediately if I were you, because that is proper bad. Even if you're off maintenance now, that's slow.
