There are worldwide reports that the PS3 is having multiple troubles after the installation of the latest firmware version 2.42 update. I downloaded it before I knew of these reports, and as soon as I turned off my PS3, and came back to it the next day, all appears to be fine... except for the fact that NO FREAKEN DISCS READ. They better fix this, and soon.
Edit: A disc just read... about 10 minutes after going into the system.
That happened to me, sorta. Didn't read discs for 3 minutes... probably had a downloading hangover or something, some people think that the Uncharted patch is also linked to it.

This is exclusively problematic from the firmware version update.

Yes, a lot of people are free from problems, but many have been affected.

2.40 was a disaster with it destroying PS3's then they relased the patch (2.41) wich covered most things and giving us some awsome features. The newest update is 2.42 wich has covered 2.40's mistake

My brother was one of the people who got 2.40 and it was fine, 2.41 was then when the problems started. 2.42 has done nothing to compensate for him.
Im starting to think there may be something hardware related here, but the thing is - he doesn't want to send it away since he will have nothing to do!
Ah the decisions!

It's obviously a hardware issue, if some consoles like it and some don't then right away you should know there is something wrong with the hardware itself that doesn't like this patch, which is why some people are having no problems while others are, if it was a software issue then everyone that downloads the patch would be having issues
