Answer needed quick [+rep]

Ok so.
I have my windows XP disk and basically what I want to do is wipe everything off my computer and start back from basic windows xp.
Can I do this by just inserting the disk and loading from it (when the computer first turns on) ? or will this not do anything.

Just put the disc in when booting up, read:
