Rebecca Addlington - another gold for GB!

She got us another gold in the 800m Freestyle Swimming. She also broke the world record (which has been unbroken for 19 years). She got us our 1st medal, now she has given us our 4th! Her friend was also in the race and came 8th for GBR, but called for Rebecca to get a damehood. I agree :D

I think a Damehood is a bit OTT... People work their whole lives to earn that kind of reward and she should get one for winning in the olympics?

Becoming a Dame is about making a life-time contribution to the community. Kelly Holmes had to compete in hundreds of events before she got Damehood.

Not really, Kelly Holmes got hers after winning 2 golds in the 2004 Olympics. Before then she didn't really do amazing in other competitions, getting mainly silvers and bronzes, and didn't compete in hundreds of events at all. Plus she already had an MBE for her services to the British Army.

Rebecca Addlington deserves SOMETHING I think :D Dont see why not.

It's rare for someone to receive a damehood without getting an MBE or CBE first... They must do something really special to go straight to dame.

I agree it would be OTT as BlueTango said. The Olympics is over rated, I don't believe really someone should get a damehood just for that. She hasn't acheived enough yet.

She was absolutely amazing... Sports personality of the year? Holmes got it when she got 2 Golds in 04 :D

And yes, Kelly Holmes may have had to take part in hundreds of events (As has Adlington, but nowhere near as many as Holmes as) but it was the winning of the 2 Gold Medals that made her get her damehood :)

But Adlington, wow. A new World, Olympic, European, Commonwealth and British record :D

I stayed up and watched the Rebecca Addlington race and she was outstanding absolutely shattered the world record. She's done extremely well considering she went to Beijing just for Olympic experience imagine how good she will be in 2012 in London! Well done to her! :)
