Water In Lungs

I was in the pool, and as I went underwater a load of water went down my throat and I started coughing really badly. Obviously the water got into my lungs.

I'm breathing fine now, but I have chest pain.#

I was just a bit worried,

- Will all the water be out of my lungs now?
- Is there anything I can do to make sure it has gone?

I'm worried because I heard you can still drown even after the coughing.

ok, there is a disease but your vaccinated to it when yur a child, the real disease is something that collects over time and kills you, the water wont be in your lungs. what was making you cough was the chlourine.

if you feel you need to go to the doctors to get checked out.. please do.

The pain should subside after a while, it was just the Chlorine irritating your lungs - it wont be water in there 'cause that will have been coughed up.
I'm a lifeguard and I'm always inhaling water like that, it's hard not too =[ But if it still hurts in a few days, perhaps seek a doctor.

and tbh, you were never really in any danger - your body would tell you if you had water in your lungs. And it's VERY painful, it like the same feeling as when your heart slows to a stop... a weird inside numbing pain.

Usually, boiling a kettle. Put it into a bowl. Get a cloth and put it over your head and breath the steam in.

Everyone swallows pool water everytime they go swimming. The never realize. But if you swallow a big amount it will make you cough but it wont kill you.

And don't listen to the idiots at the first posts, and dont start smoking if you havern't.

The water will probably have osmosed to the bloodstream (haha biology!) and therefore you'll probably start feeling an overall acheyness, and like, basicly its just where your bloods a bit diluted butthis will go within 2-3 days i shud think ^^ grade 3 first aider and thats the best i can come up with

I have had that before, but with a fruit shoot. It was incredibly painful and I also had chest pains. The coughing and chest pains subsided after about an hour, so i'm not sure. Plus swimming water has chlorine, and that can't be any good.

I recommend a doctor. :P
