But how come the private message system isnt viewable via your "welcome message

It just says:

You havnt read the annocement :)

however i think there is an error with the system as, when i get a PM it doesn't show up and i have to access my UserCP to view if i got any PMs or Visitor messages :)

It a new ssytem that josh the admin i think set up so that we can view just like PM's if we have any visitor messages.

I was getting that. If you go to http://www.habboxforum.com/profile.php?do=editoptions and click No on the Show Notifications? bit, it should come up with the private messages bit.

It all seems fine.

Maybe it's a usergroup error? I tried in IE, does the same thing in FF.

I want my PMs bit back. :'(

I put it to don't show notifications, but nothing happened, so I put it back to show notifications and now it's back to normal. :S

It should be so that when it's set to know it will show:

When it's set to yes it will show the same as above, but when you get a new PM or VM it will change to "Notifcations" and get rid of the PMs section.

I'll check it again, but it should be okay :S

edit; oh wait, i see what it is now, notifications are for everything and not just PMs. so unless you don't have any, it won't show up?
i'll stick to the other way :D

and just so you know, there is a little error when you go to the options: Would you like notifications to appear in the Private Messages area? If no, iyou will only be informed of unread Private Messages.

If the Show Notifications? is set to yes you should see the PMs when you get a new one, if it is set to no you will always see them.

Everyone was set to Yes by default, so change it to No if you want too :)

That's how it should be, but because I have to make the option of turning it on or off, it messes it up.

I don't see why there is all this fuss about a small new feature that wasn't even needed in the first place? Personally I like the old one and I'm sure many others do. Any complications could simply have been avoided if the old function had been set as default and the forum users simply informed about the change.

I do believe there will be some forum members unable to find their list of PMs which will cause frustration in the near future.

It has been fixed now and joshuar has put up a guide in the announcements. Those that don't like the new feature can change back to the old one if they want.

Meaning that it will not change to a notifications menu, it will only show PMs.

EVERYBODY IS SET TO 'YES' BY DEFAULT, YOU MUST CHANGE THIS YOURSELF BY GOING TO YOUR USER CP -> EDIT OPTIONS -> SHOW NOTIFICATIONS?

If you believe it is functioning wrong please post in the Bug Tracker with what the problem is, and what your Show Notifications? is set to and it will be looked into.

That's now how it should be, basically MAD wanted it so users could choose between having notifications and having the old school setup (also with the amount of PMs AGMs get, they would rather have the PM thing there rather than notifications).

However, the code was being a pain in the rear and was being fiddily, plus, users were getting set to a value that didn't exist on the Show Notifications option, meaning they were getting no PMs or notifications.

It was supposed to be a simple addition that went wrong basically :$

Ah I see, but the original idea which HabMate uses would be best of both worlds. If people don't want Profile Messages, then they won't get them because they probably wouldn't have the time or the interest to even message other people, so they wouldn't get them and if they did, it's a quick look in the profile field. Not sure why you can't go with that idea, because that seems sensible compared to having to play around with coding. Unless the HabMate one was coding, but I didn't think there was anyone on there that would do that :P
