Sony's just announced a 160GB PlayStation 3, which will be released in Europe on October 31

The massive new PS3 joins the 80GB version, which goes on sale this side of the pond on Friday, August 22 (that's this Friday), Sony has announced at its Leipzig conference.

The 160GB PS3 will go on sale for 449 Euros (£355) and the 80GB will retail for 399 Euros (£315), so no one's going to have excuse for not downloading copious amounts of download content.

Depends what you do with your PS3, if you just use CD's then obv you wont get it but if you download trailers PSN Games and tones of music and photos and you do that for a couple of years you will need the 160 + with them bringing out the feature to download movies and music you would need the space.

My 80gb suits me.

No need for the 160 unless you love filling your ps3 with crap. :)

Some of the game downloads are quite big no? Some can go from 5-6GB, so on a 40GB console that's only 8 games? The only annoying thing about the 80 is having to sell it and do another dead, unsuccessful console release. The 80GB didn't really hit it off as it wasn't all that well advertised so unless they heavily advertise the 160GB and offer good Christmas deals I don't think it'll do all that well. The 160GB is useful for storing everything on it.. at work we have a 60GB which has various films on for people to watch.. it'll soon have Season 1 of Reaper on it too, so for stuff like that it's useful.

Also with the increasing size of blu-ray discs I think for the future it may come in handy.

i agree with you mainly. because i had to format my ps3 a month or two ago. i have a 60gb one and every friday with the store update i'm using up around 5gb, be it videos or demos. however i do not delete videos unless its about something im not interested in, which isnt much. And with E3 and Lepiges (sorry) videos and confrances (sorry again) coming out in 1080p hi-def they almost take a gb one video a piece. So with the ps3 staying put for a known 4 years the 160gb is a console ready to stay with nothing deleted until ps4. if that ever happens.

P.s. will be posting all details about lepigs confrance

If it's rediculously expensvie, buy a laptop hard drive and just use that. It might be cheaper in the long run (if upgrading from a 40GB to a higher space). If you do upgrade a PS3s hard drive, how do you move the saved games?

From the PSN Store you'd have to use the same user name and re-download from the store. It's free as long as the red bag in the corner of each thumbnail is there. If you mean saved data then you have to do it one by one to a memory stick.

p.s. can you do me a sig :D

I'd like to know who would use all 160gb storage on the PS3.

I would.
I stick loads of movies and tv episodes on mine.
I've filled my 40GB with every south park episode ever.
I'm gonna upgrade my hard-drive soon.

Why can't you just use your PC for south park episodes lol. How do you download videos onto it anyway?

Convert to divX and copy them on.

I like having them on my Ps3.

I dunno why...

Well it'd use less and be faster than a computer without having to shut down un wanted applications. As well as, you can put it on the biggest tv you want compared to a average size of comp which is 15" or 17" i think

I've got 18 demos, all working ;) And 14 disc games, all with save blocks, but i haven't had a problem. I have 10-12 songs aswel?

aye but disc doesnt matter, demo's can be small. songs are tiny its vids in hi def which count

And half decent Hi Def Footage about 5 mins is a few 100 megs so imagine an hour it just shreds hard disk space I my self had to update my hard drive and transfer everything across with a friends cable.
