I did the same when i was in year 10 back in the day. Was 4 marks off the A* lol. Was well pissed because I knew I easily had it in me. Oh well, went on to set the still unbeaten raw score record for maths at my school in Year 11 :P.

I know man! I "7Bs", most of them are basically C/D boardline targeted subjects that went up to "B"s because of revision! I wish some off them "B"s changed to As! But like for a few subjects I was only a few marks away from a "A"! But at least its better then getting 4Bs,4Cs and 4Ds what I was predicted at the start of the year :)!
Im annoyed with my Maths,Drama & Food technology result!
Best thing to do now is look into the future and study hard at AS-level,no more FCUKING about LOL!

Isn't it "Nerd" if you're clever?
I prefer just to be called bright usually.
Isn't it "Nerd" if you're clever?
Being naturally clever or "bright" doesn't automatically make you a nerd. It's more of the way you act, and you don't have to be clever to be a nerd.
The people who are gutted at getting, for example, 10 A* and 1 A, and are the gutted at that one A, then I am more then happy to beat you into oblivion. These sort of people need a life tbh.
It's all about people's individual standards and how they did relative to their own personal abilities. If you converted academics into a more sporting sense, say your personal best time for running the 100m was 10.2 seconds. In the race that mattered (the exam is you athletics back to academics) you came second with a time of 10.7 seconds and first place won with 10.5 then you'd be gutted about not winning as you know you can do better and could have won if it went right on the day. That's like getting an A when it could/should have been an A*.

My GCSEs had been done in one year, whilst only attending school part-time. This was due to long-term illness which prevented me from attending most of KS4. I got:
1A, 7B's and 1C
Overall, i'm very, very disappointed with my results. Many grades were just under their respected boundaries, so it did dishearten me to find out why I had done so badly.
Although I do still have the determination to study medicine, because I've been told that many universities would overrule my GCSE results as extenuating circumstances and would use A-levels and the UKAT as an indicator of intelligence.
PS - My school achieved 26% in their A*-C results, so if they don't improve in the next two years (government proposals); then they're history!

Why be disappointed? Those grades are good considering you attended school part time.
To everyone who's saying "nnader got 9 A*s he's gotta be lying", a girl at my school a few years ago got 13.
Anyway, my results were:
4 A*
7 A
3 B
1 C (short course RE)

You don't have to do the paper the teacher sets you. You can do two things:
Get your parents to support you: you should of told your parents who contacted the school. Your parents can override your school at any time - if they want you in for Higher, the school has to put you in for higher. This doesn't usually happen, as most parents are out of their depth with GCSEs, and just agree with the subject teacher.
Reject the paper in the exam: before the exam has started, you can appeal by saying "I should not be in this tier.". If you had then said to the invigilator / exams officer about your coursework grades, it's almost evident you should be in Higher.
Really, you should submit a complaint to your school - either way, you could of changed it if you really bothered.

on my timetable it said i was in foundation, i went and spoke to her about it, she said i'm definately in higher, and my timetable was wrong. so, exam comes round, at the exam i was in the foundation hall.. so i spoke to her, she paniced and was like "oh i'll go sort it out for you" and the ***** never came back
so no, not really i couldn't have changed it, i didn't want to reject the exam because i'd rather get a C than get a U -as far as i knew they couldn't do **** all on the day.

You shouldn't of gone through with the exam then. I'm sorry, but how are you at fault if it was a clerical error? Firstly, your exam board would of given you special consideration if you rejected the exam because of a wrong tier, but secondly, if you was placed in the foundation hall, all you need to do is stand up and say: "I'm not supposed to be in here." (or put your hand up, obviously).
GCSEs are meant to be taken seriously, if you was about to take the wrong one, you should of said something to someone more senior then a subject teacher.

6 A's, 3 B's, 1 C. Was a bit disappointed, especially getting a C in German. My coursework was like A/A* so I must have done awful in the exams :(.

I doubt he took 16 GCSE's and passed them all with A* unless he done it over a 3 year period, or took alot of them early in year 10 and is either naturally amazingly clever and takes in everything straight away, or just studys 24/7.
Otherwise i find it nearly impossible, as most schools will not let you take anymore than 11 or 12.

I thought he was being sarcastic :S
I pity anyone who takes that many, and gets that many good grades. 16A*s is very, very unnecessary work, and nobody actually intelligent would take that many, because they should be taking e.g. 11 GCSEs and moving onto A-Level if they want to do more, not just keep on doing GCSEs. Plus, 16 GCSEs at A* level isn't really what employers want to see, is it? I'm sure they'd prefer someone actually human..

Don't worry, it's most likely a load of rubbish, especially considering his comment on German.

eek sorry. Maybe what I said came accross wrong. I didn't mean it in a way that your results are bad, I meant that GCSEs are so over hyped and aren't as important as everyone makes out. I meant GCSEs themsleves, not your results >_>

Doubt it, schools don't even bother sending of maths for re-markings, considering maths exams are marked by like 2/3 different people, including moderating from the examination board. The only case it would probably get sent of is if you were predicted an A* and got something like an E :S Only written exams schools deem worthy enough of re-marking.

Yeah. Subjects like English or R.E might get sent off because there is no actual answer to the question so it could have a few marks here or there that have not been counted.

Incorrect. My old maths teacher himself said that I had a very good chance of going up to an A*, and I think he knows a lot more about it than you. :)The school's paying for it, anyway, so I'm not complaining if I don't go up. If I don't go up and it's before the 20th of September I'll pay to send some more stuff off.
I only need 1 or 2 marks I think. As for maths either being right or wrong, that's true to an extent, but don't forget you get marks for all sorts of things nowadays. (you can get a B without getting a single question correct, I think?). I can remember on the first paper I panicked incredibly on the last question, and literally filled 2 A4 sheets of paper with working out, so fingers crossed. :D

Guy who said his teacher said it's a high chance of it going up,
if it was a high chance, thats like saying everyones gcses is very unprofessionally marked because everyons could have a high chance of having different marks.
Our head of maths at our school said, it's a lot of money, the school aren't going to pay, you can pay, it's basically a waste of time, because if you're on the borderline by 1-4 marks, you paper gets checked an extra time anyway.
So the chances of it changing by one mark, let alone three, is very VERY unlikely.

Exactly, it's like me and others have said, exams are marked numerous times, I doubt in a maths exam, out of all exams, they would miss out one if any marks
