View Full Version : Thinking of building my own Gaming PC +REP
Well, i'm considering getting all the components i need for a gaming computer, i have never done this before but i have a good knowledge on what components i want to get. My price range is about £500-£700
Planning on;
nVidia Geforce 8800GT 512mb
3gb ram
200-300gb memory
Cpu - not sure yet
22" HD monitor
anyway for the rest of the components, what would you reccommend?
Also if you could give me a site which sells these at affordable price, would be much appreciated :D
+rep for decent help

ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/) is good for components. I'd recommend the E6600 for a processor and maybe the GA-EP35-DS3R for a mobo. The heatsink really depends on what case you're getting but the Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer is without a doubt the best on the market (requires huuuuuge case though).

You've got to be kidding. The best Heatsinks avaliable on the market now are the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and the OCZ vendetta 2.
And you're going to be find with stock cooling unless you do some serious overclocking

Why dont you go for a ATI 4850 , there better that the 8800GT, and well priced, in the USA that is, not sure about the UK.

The ultra 120 extreme is barely a step up from the regular version and the OCZ Vendetta 2 performs the same as a Xigmatek HDT-S964 from what I've seen meaning they're both outcooled by the Sunbeam.
Thanks guys :D
will the ATI 4850
Be able to play games like crysis and call of duty on high/highest detail with a decent fps?
Thanks iv'e +repped
Also what cpu and mother board would you reccommend
Looking on spending £200 for the cpu

Depends on your processor, but I'd say you probably could on high, not sure about highest.

Read my second post :P But if you really want to spend £200 on the processor alone you could get something like the Q9450.
Right guys so far iv'e come up with
THERMALTAKE ARMOR CASE
ATI 4850
4gb RAM
THERMALTAKE W010RB Toughpower 700watt Power suply
Asus V-60 Quiet Socket 775 Processor Cooler
Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Soundcard - OEM
LG W2242S 22" TFT Monitor 1680x1050 8000:1 300cd/m2 5ms VGA Silver/Black 3
Creative Inspire T3100 2.1 Speakers - OEM -
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 ~ 2.4ghz
And this adds up to approximately £650, i still need the memory (planning on 300gb) and motherboard.
+rep if you can reccommend a good motherboard prefferably one with 3 or 4 ram slots
Looks good so far.

Yes it would, but it;s not that good of a board really. It'd do the job though. The sound card isn't really necessary as you could use the onboard sound and you probably won't really notice the difference with those speakers. Also, don't buy cheap generic RAM. Get something that's at least branded.

Get some Crucial, G.Skill RAM or something, also get an Intel based motherboard and your good to go.
4 GB RAM would be better ;)

You will have no end of trouble with Nvidia based motherboards. The RAM... you may regret not getting decent RAM, I spent £50 on 1 pack of 2GB, then I bought another pack of 2GB, so £25 a stick for what I got.
Okay well when it comes to the gaming case;
What drivers do i need? (cdrom drive etc) And if anyone could reccommend an AFFORDABLE one then +rep will be on your way

Would this be enough to run my games?

Yes XP x64 will do, but why not an x64 version of Vista?
The motherboard will come with all the cables you need.

Antec 900 is awful for cable management, I strongly recommend the CM-690, great cable management + like 3 fans stock, with you being able to add like 5 more.

Yeh, i kinda agree with that actually, was round mates who ahs the same case (i also have that one) and we were cleaning his computer as it was getting dusty, we put it all back to gether and turn it on and heard a cable on a fan >.< - could of snapped the wire..
But apart from that - its a pretty good and nice looking case.
Should i go with this Vista Home Premium 64bit
