Hi guys,

Aside from the basics, can you list any features you want me to add to a site management system, which will be released.

It'll be coded in PHP5, using MySQLi 5x.

Thanks!

Also.. features only, no flaming :)

Moved by Invent (Forum Moderator) from Designing & Development: Please post in the correct forum next time, thanks :).

Simple editing such as ajax edititng titles, able to turn the page offline by double clicking icon maybe? Like vBulletin threads on showthread.php double click icon will lock thread, but for pages instead thus making it "closed" to public?

Make it so you can upload images to put on pages that why it makes it easier so there no need to open up ftpto upload an image.

Thanks :)

Feel free to add some features you'd like to see.

One which I'm thinking about is inline editing, on editable pages.

MySQL and MySQLi are two different things.

You are implying that you are coding it with MySQLi version 5x, whereas MySQLi consists of a one-version extension.

@Dentafrice:
I think he is talking about the preloaded class that come with php5
http://au2.php.net/manual/en/class.mysqli.php

Dentafrice

I know what he's talking about, but it's not a version controlled class, it's just an extension that came preloaded with PHP5.

He specified it as MySQLi 5x, when it should have been MySQL 5x ;)

MySQLi is just the connection point between PHP and MySQL.

It was easier than saying:

Coded using MySQL, via php's MySQLi extension.

Stop being pedantic...im over using this word.

Still, it makes you look like you're trying to be a 'know-it-all'.

There was no need to mention MySQLi either, 90% of the forum community wouldn't know what it is.

You should have just said PHP and MySQL.

Also, Calon, it has never been established what the 'i' stood for. But many percieve it as improved.

Are you that ignorant?

MySQLi is MySQL improved, it has been established... it was established when it was first released.. and if is officially MySQL improved.

I just tried to show what it was...anyway.

If you was trying to show what it was, all you had to do was say using MySQLi.

But you wanted to make it seem like you was using 'the latest technology'.

Anyways, you already have built a CMS. Why not just improve it..

You just categorized James as an emo, when he's a chav.

Analyze it all you want, I know what you'll do already, look at all the good parts, and say nothing, then you'll look at all the bad parts, and make a thread about each.

The extension he is using comes default with PHP5, so it's not that hard to integrate that into a script

I think a cms would be a good idea however I assume it is aimed at the more nooby people who can't make websites. Well when they get it, (assuming this has templating) they are gona have to make a template, so they are back at square one sort of.

Patience is the word.

You need patience!

It takes time to code a site management system, its not easy like coding a simple layout.

To be honest, if you don't like the arguments.. don't read them.

Most of the core classes are done.

I'll probably get started on the backend functions for each page in a week or two.

Then after that it will be a lot of frontend work, and making the UI nice.

For the record, I will be releasing it with a very basic template, as it is either going to use Smarty, which I'll implement later, or it'll use a templating system that I code myself. Probably the latter, as I can't really be bothered to learn Smarty, I can only do the basics right now.

@L?KE: I understand that it will be kinda hard, but I'm going to make the templating system very basic, as I will probably code it, so it'll be like [@user_welcome_msg], and [@page_content], and [@menu] [@menu_item]<div> ..html code for a menu item.. </div> [/@menu_item][/@menu], and that will be about it, as I don't see any need for much else.

Why use _'s and not a camel readability type system:

EX: page_content, menu_item
EX: pageContent, menuItem

and I don't really like the idea of []'s.

{@phrase-welcome} looks better imo ;P

Yeah, why not, I'll use {}'s. Yeh, I may as well use camelCase.

Thanks ;)

Suggestions are still welcome.

Just don't use the version of CamelCase where the first letter has to be capitalized, excluding class names that is.
