Well if that model was touch screen, you wouldn't need the reel at the bottom of it. i fixed my spelling error but do you have noting better to do than comment on my miss-spellings, everyone has them.

I can't see the nano becoming like that, the screen is the wrong shape to watch movies on and it looks ugly :(

That would be great if mabe the click wheel icons were digital and changed when you tipped the ipod horizontally for watching movies, and even just have it like that normally.
It would be a good idea as I and am sure many others would preffer to hold it horizontally much of the time.

I dont think they look exactly like that but the iPods WILL have longer, zune-esque screens this year, its been on all the mac sites.

and this is from Kevin Rose, he is very accurate with his rumors, he owns digg, he is good friends with the insiders at apple.

TBH, I don't think that they will make the Nano's any bigger than they are atm. It wouldn't be a nano then, would it? (If it was big)

Just as i was thinking, that was the aim for the nano,

Dictonary description for the word 'nano'

nano-

/nanno/
• combining form 1 denoting a factor of one thousand millionth (10&min;9): nanosecond. 2 extremely small; submicroscopic: nanomachine.
— ORIGIN from Greek nanos ‘dwarf’.

Why would they take a product which its purpose is for small mp3 player, and inlarge it. all the releses of the nano have decresed in size as time has gone on FOR EXAMPLE

http://regmedia.co.uk/2007/09/28/nano_1_2_3.jpg

The new nano is a little bit wider, but the reason for that is the larger screen . but the lenght of it has decreased significantly. which still should make it smaller than the rest, if you take all factors into account

Because its that time of the year again where Apple release many things :P I'm hoping for Blu-Ray support even though I don't own a Blu-ray drive/DVDs. But it be a nice upgrade for the future. I'm also waiting for the new MacBooks :)

Edit; People who are saying that Nano = Small. Well looking at the picture it looks similar to the first Nano. But just a bigger screen and oval type shape?

Yeah but if you look at the other products, most of them had a longer life than one year.

I dont think that this looks good at all, its not how I would have expected a new nano to look.

I know what your saying. Maybe they never come? Maybe the picture is wrong and Apple release something better. Either way the latest iPod Nano was announced/released September 5, 2007. So the timing is correct.

I think we have preety much ruled out that proto-type. but we will not know untill the new generation is relesed, one thing is for sure there will be a new generation, apple have done so well from the ipod, it picked there company back up again. they were in the ****ter hole before the ipod came along

My 1st Gen Nano lasted nearly 2 years before I had to update it - and not because it broke or anything, but because I needed more room. It's a great mp3, and if my 3rd gen lasts as long then I doubt I'll bother with this update.

To add to what I said above:

That picture is fan-made mockup. The screen on it has an aspect ratio of 1 : 1.28, which is very nearly square. For comparison, widescreen movies are 1 : 1.78. This means that if you were to watch a widescreen movie on that iPod, you would either cut off a large amount of the picture, or would see very large black bars at the top and bottom, which would take up around 50% of the screen.

In order for the screen to be the correct aspect ratio, it would have to be taller/longer, although it is pretty long as it is.

Although all the rumours point to a taller, longer Nano, that design doesn't quite work.

And Kevins rumors used to be terrible, but lately he has been fairly accurate. So take it with a pinch of salt as always.

So he's probably right about the new iPod in that case as it would be a major product.

More evidence is appearing that supports the rumored taller iPod Nano design with a curved screen. Case designs (seen above) at Alibaba (via Engadget) depict new cases for an iPod Nano 4G. The 4th generation iPod Nano has been rumored to have a taller design with widescreen to allow for video playback. The rumor was first reported in July, with additional claims a few days ago from Kevin Rose.

http://images.macrumors.com/article/2008/08/24/200743-for_iPod_nano_4G_Silicon_Skin_Case_400.jpg

Meanwhile, iDealsChina has posted renderings of the 4th Generation iPod which also match the rumored description:
iDealsChina was previously responsible for leaked iPhone 3G case moldings that turned out to be accurate. These renderings, however, omit the iPod's universal dock connector.

Separately, and perhaps more interestingly, iDealsChina claims that the next generation iPod Touch will contain GPS. The iPod Touch is expected to see a revision in the next few weeks.

that's not going to see the light of day. it's way too ugly for apple to release, style is probably their biggest selling point and that thing is really awkward looking.

Call me old fashioned, but I have to wonder why they keep redesigning something which clearly sells very well and makes them a shedload of money. Once they got the classic's design right they hardly changed from the third generation forwards, they just changed the firmware on it to make it work better. They didn't change the iphone between the first and second versions either.

The ipod in that picture is horrible looking anyway :P

Is it just the Nano they are updating?

What about the Classic and Touch?

Theres rumors that the touch will get a slight update. But its only a few weeks until its announced to the world.

Edit: Update from Mac Rumors:

AppleInsider recaps many of the circulating rumors which expect both iPod and Mac notebook updates in September. Some rumors have pegged September 9th as the possible day for at least some of the updates.

The iPod Nano and iPod touch are expected to see revisions, and long standing MacBook and MacBook Pro rumors point to revised case designs (MacBook, MacBook Pro) that adopt an aluminum/tapered look.

Newly reported, however, are expectations that the Apple iMac will see a refresh prior to the holiday season:
Separately, Apple is also planning to refresh its line of 20- and 24-inch iMac seasons ahead of the holidays. People familiar with these plans have described the refresh to consist of 'speed bumps' rather than major internal or external changes. Based on the roadmap presented to AppleInsider, these systems would debut later this fall following the release of the new MacBooks, making their way to market with little fanfare.

An iMac update would be contrary to expectations as the iMac is the most recently updated Mac. The iMac was updated in April of this year and introduced early Montevina-like technology. As a result, there would be only marginal improvements if it were updated to the most recently released Penryn/Montevina chipsets.

I don't read every rumors, but if i remember there was one like that, a bigger iPod Touch capacity size. At the moment they offer 8GB, 16 and 32. So if they did a 60? I guess they could. Although i don't know what this "slight" update people are mentioning will be. Cosmetic? or capacity? Time will tell. Although at the moment I have no iPods since I sold my touch for cash.
